Basically this lake is closed for public during winter, but you can access it if you participate yourself for midwinter ecological tour. The information is provided in tourist center or even in your accommodation.

During the tour, we can access the frozen lake, which is usually inaccessible in summer. Oppositely, the skywalk is closed. When the snow is thick enough, we are even allowed to approach the area around below the skywalk to see the drift ice. However, when I came, the winter was warmer than usual. The snow is not really thick that some grasses growing, and we are not allowed to damage them by stepping on it.

The best time to visit is when the sky is clear and the animals can be seen, but anytime possible is okay. Overall, it is very beautiful to see the landscape full of white while listening to the guide...

The richest man or woman in the world could never create something a fraction as beautiful as the mountains, lakes, animals and forest that you can see here.

The boardwalk is well made of wood and there are no steps or slopes so a person with a disability could manage this route between the lakes with ease.

Please never try to attract or feed the bears. It would be the death of them because they would become addicted to human food. Respect the animals by...

There is paid parking. 500¥ per entry. Entrance to the 5 lakes is not free. It is about 300-500¥ per head. All are required to go through a briefing which important and essential. There is an elevated boardwalk which is free for all but one can only view 1 lake. On a clear day, one should be able to see lovely scenaries. Unfortunately, it was foggy when I was there and I could only use my imagination. 😁 It was still a good walk.

Lovely, easy 1.6km walk along the elevated boardwalk. Very clear morning so we could see the sea and the lake. Lake itself was a little smaller than expected but not bad for a leisurely post breakfast stroll. People with babies and wheelchairs could manage the free boardwalk as well. Didn’t bother with the paid guided walk since we weren’t dressed in hiking gear.
