Bihoku Hillside Park — Attraction in Shobara

I went around 6:30-7pm on a rainy night for Winter Illumination. There weren’t many people out so it made the photos look even more picturesque. The exhibits are set up so you don’t have to backtrack/walk in circles to make sure you see everything. Everything was amazing and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before! I can’t imagine the hard work put into setting it all up.

I got here by bus and still had to walk 20 minutes from the bus stop, so I recommend driving, taxi, or bike. There are no buses even at 7:45pm.

Enormous park! Very popular during winter illumination but also also offers many fun and athletic activities for kids during summer. One day is not enough to explore the park. Rent bicycles and get the ebikes, paths aren't flat at all, so many hills whew. They have bikes with child seat. Bicycles for kids are available too. Don't forget to bring snacks, drinks, food, and picnic tent/shade. We saw many Japanese families fully equipped with these and wished we brought ours too. 広島県庄原市にある国営の公園。 敷地はかなり広く、マツダスタジアムの約150個分もある広さ！このため全て歩いて回るとかなりの時間と労力が必要なので、園内で運行されている「ロードトレイン」(3歳以上400円)に乗って園内をグルッと回って園内を一通り見た後に行きたい場所へ行くか、最初から行きたい場所のを決めてそこへ歩いていくか、ロードトレインで行くかを決めておいた方がいいかもしれない。 入園料は小・中学生は無料、 大人（15才以上65才未満) は450円/日、ｼﾙﾊﾞｰ料金210円/日（満65才以上）。 駐車場は普通車、軽自動車が350円／日、大型車1200円／日、二輪車は200円／日。

施設はさすがに国の公園だけあって管理が行き届いており、どの場所に行っても綺麗に整備されている。 また花畑も整備されており、広い花壇に季節の花々が咲き誇る景色はまさに圧巻。しかしその花畑に入って咲いている花を踏みつけて写真撮影する人もいて、マナーの悪さを感じた。また、咲いている花をちぎって遊ぶ子供を注意しない親もいて、マナーの低下を感じずにはいられなかった。。

他には売店や、軽食の店もある。しかし売店(ビジターセンター)は敷地の割に小さめで、扱っている品もそれほど多くない。地元の特産品のお土産が少しあり、あとは普通の菓子類があるだけでした。 この売店に売ってた地元庄原市で作られたカップアイスはミルクの味が濃厚でなかなか美味しかった。ただし1個350円くらいしたので、もう少し安くならないかなぁ…… また今回はファーストフードや飲み物の露店も大芝生広場の近くに出店してましたね。
