Very interesting shrine inside a cave, connected to the Amaterasu Creation Story. It's a beautiful walk through a forest and next to a river. You can see the many stone stacks from previous visitors, and be impressed at some of the more precariously balanced ones. Very memorable experience, so be sure to stop by if you're in the area! I recommend parking at the shrine and walking over. If you collect goshuin, consider dropping your book off before and picking it up on your way back out.

An absolutely stunning shrine located within a cave at the end of a ravine. A stone path will lead you there. Beware, slippery when wet! Stunning nature, but also animals and bugs so beware if you’re allergic to bees or ants. Free entry. Can get busy as people come to pray at the altar. Be respectful of the place and the people.

I visit here multiple times a year if I can manage. And the scenery in each season changes, but remains eerily sacred, or so it seems. This is also where I bring people visiting me in Japan for the first time, because it truly feels surreal, like you are definitely in another country and somewhere sacred.

素晴らしい！是非とも来てください！しかし、観光客が多かったです。。。 いやー！パワースポット巡りや、宮崎観光を楽しんでいる野口剛（のぐちたけし）です！！ 岩戸神社と天安河原へ行ってきました！ 前回は、天岩戸神社のブログを記載しましたが、その後、天安河原へ行ってきました。 駐車場で車を止めて、天岩戸神社へ行ったら、そのまま天安河原へ行けるため、天岩戸神社と天安河原セットで体験できます。 まずは体験の感想から！ 「一生に一回は行ってもらいたい！」 そしたら、天安河原はこちら↓ Googleローカルガイドの口コミも420件オーバー（※2018/09/01時点）です。 ※この場所は本当にパワースポットなので、今後もっと口コミも増えるでしょう！ 私も、いろいろな場所に行っていますが、すごい力を感じました！※個人的な感想です。 まずは、天岩戸神社から歩いて行きます。 そうすると下る道へ。 その後、数百メートルほど下るを橋が見えます。 ※足が悪い方や、車椅子の方は難しいのでいろいろと補助が必要になると思います。 進んでいくと、橋がありますので、渡りましょう！ とても神秘的な風景と森林浴が楽しめます。 歩いて、15分くらいで到着します。 この赤いロープが見えてくると目的地、天安河原は近くです。 それでは進みましょう。 そして、、 ドーン！！きました！！ ここが、天安河原になります。 観光の皆様も本当におおい！！ ”岩戸に隠れた天照大神を説得するため、八百万の神が神議を行ったと伝えられる大洞窟。入場料無料” と、Googleマップに記載があります。 誰が石を積んだのか疑問ですが、石が積まれています。 本当に広い空間です。 いたるところに石が積まれています。 さすがパワースポットという雰囲気が漂います。 逆から見る風景も絶景もおすすめ！ 夏でしたが、ヒヤッとする空間でした。 私も初めて来ましたが、本当に雰囲気がいい場所でした。 帰りは、登りになりますので、坂を上がった茶屋でアイスクリームを食べました！ またここも絶品ですのでお立ち寄りください！！

This is a really unique shrine to visit, with a very interesting and significant story behind it's creation. I would highly recommend visiting and I found this shrine much more impressive than the nearby Takachiho gorge itself! The walk down to the shrine is part of the experience too.

Nice shrine in a cave. Google maps tries to take you to the actual spot. But the parking lot is a few mins drive away. You need to walk through the end and pass by a bunch of ice cream + snacks shop. Take the stairs down and the shrine will be at the end of the path.
