Wakasa Takahama Eldoland is located near the coast in Takahama-cho. It is a scientific facility built for educational purpose provided by Kansai Electric Power Co. In this theme park you can learn how the enegy and nature along with the development of global science coexist with our modern civilization in the form of tropical environment created by the hands of human. The them of the park is a tropical rain forest. The park displays a sample of natural habitats for some species found in tropical regions. The highlight of the facility is a section called Tropical Wonder which is a conservatory combined with aquarium. Only this section requires entrance fee of 400 yen. All the rest of the facility is free of charge for your entrance. The most popular feature of this conservatory is Pirarucu from Amazon River. Pirarucu is one of the largest type of fresh water fish that can reach up to 5 meters in length when they are fully grown, but they are usually between 2 to 3 meters. The species existed from ancient times of approximately 1 billion years ago without changing its form. They are the living fossils in modern age. The building consists of 2 stories with entire roof of the conservatory constructed with glass panels with stairways and a long path communication through the forest and various type of aquariums. Information is currently all provided only in Japanese language. This Road Station Seaside Takahama is located just a few hundred meters east of Eldoland. Great place to stop by and relax for some souvenir shopping or just hand around. The facility is combination of restaurant + shop + information center + Hot Spring.
