祭神　応仁天皇　仲哀天皇　神功皇后 延喜十八年(918年)八幡大神が亀命山山上に現れ時の国司が山上に祠を建て祀ったと云われています。 また岩清水八幡宮の分霊を祀ったと云うべつの由緒がある。 貞治年間(1362年～1368年)細川右馬頭頼之が戦勝祈願して霊験をこうむり社殿を拡築し武具を奉納し毎年４月３日に祭礼を行った。これを右馬頭市と云う。 天正十六年(1588年)生駒親正が讃岐に封じられると高松城を築き当社を城の鎮守と定め社殿を改築し高松の産土神とした。 松平頼重も当社を祟敬し寛永二十一年(1644年)には社殿を造営して現在地に移し社領二百二石余りを寄進した。 その後宝永二年(1705年)三代藩主頼豊が改修以来歴代藩主は毎年社参を通例とした。 以来改修を繰り返し太平洋戦争の高松空襲にも一部被害を受けたのみであったが昭和六十一年に不測の火災により本殿、上拝殿は炎上烏有に帰した。 平成元年より本殿、上拝殿、その他社殿を改築整備し神門、下拝殿修復し焼失前より更に規模を拡げ平...
