Very surprised to have one of the worst departure experiences (so far) in my life at a non-major Japanese airport.

The facilities themselves are decent, completely serviceable and nothing to complain about. Most staff are friendly and helpful.

However, like others have written before, one of the airport security people has a massive attitude and is basically on a power trip.

I forgot to use a ziploc bag but nonetheless followed airport rules and placed ONE tiny hand sanitizer bottle (very clearly

This airport was as small as expected. It mainly served domestic flights, plus a few international flights. Therefore, the terminal was not so busy all the time. When I arrived there by plane, it took about an hour for the customs clearance. At that time, the number of passengers from the plane was about 180. Two counters were operating, and only one or two officers could speak some English. Airplanes could park by the terminal and connected by a covered footbridge. Luggage was not damaged, which sounded good. There were several eateries and souvenir shops. Toilets were clean. Since udon was made in this province, I chose to eat in one noodle shop on the second floor. The quality was fine. But beware of the business hours because the lunch serving time was finished early. The staff in the souvenir shops were friendly. There were car rental representatives on duty in their respective counter, who led their customers to the shuttle van because all car rental companies were located in the surrounding area. A theme park was built adjacent to...

The worst airport experience ever, just didn't expect it to be in Japan. Check-in was already a long queue, the efficiency was so low. It was even worse at the security check, where all the passengers for the international flight wait in a loooooooong line for them to argue with previous passengers on duty-free sealed items. Wasted too much of our time, and because of this, our boarding is delayed and the plane cannot take off on time. It should be the take off time now, but I still haven't got on the plane (while I'm already in the front of the line). Plus, duty-free shop here is lame. Too few items with too few we can buy. Too many places for this airport to improve, and I like Takamatsu city, but I'm sure that I will never visit this...

*This is a review for the domestic terminal only* Takamatsu is a compact airport. 2 floors and only a few shops. I used the domestic terminal and I wasnโ€™t especially impressed with the organization or facilities available. Compared with other small sized airports in Japan it seems a little dated and poorly maintained. The security checked was very disorganized and it seemed that the staff were a little overwhelmed on a busy Friday afternoon (JAL, ANA and Jet Star all had flights leaving). There were many people standing as there clearly isnโ€™t enough seating for the volume of passengers. Finally, once you are airside there are only 2 small kiosks for food, drink and souvenirs. So make sure the eat, drink and shop before heading through security.
