Okuhida Bear's Ranch offers a chance to see a variety of bears in a well-maintained, clean facility. However, it’s a relatively small attraction that can easily be explored in under an hour.

The Bears and the Experience The ranch features many bears, and while they’re impressive to see up close, the experience left something to be desired. The opportunity to take a picture with a "baby bear" was underwhelming—the bears were not small as advertised, and they seemed aggressive. Additionally, you’re only allowed to hand over your phone for the staff to take photos, which felt impersonal and overpriced for the experience.

Worth the Visit? Unless you’re staying nearby, the ranch may not be worth going out of your way for. While the facility is clean and the bears are interesting, the overall experience doesn’t justify a long trip.

Final Thoughts Okuhida Bear's Ranch is a quick, simple stop if you’re already in the area, but it falls short as a standalone destination. If you’re considering the photo experience with the bears, it might be...

🚪 Entrance: ¥1100 (there is also promotion where we followed Instagram for 10% off and get a free box of biscuits to feed the bears with)

🖼 : There is also extra photography service where you can take a photo with a bear cub (max 8 ppl in photo) for ¥1000

🐻: It is a good opportunity to see real Japanese Black Bears up close, especially for kids. But I must agree that it is a little sad to see them in captivity and kept in such a state (concrete and water but no greens for them)

🤳: Since it is very close up, you can take really great photos of them.

🍯: You can get bear biscuits or dried fruits to feed them. Also sad to see them just sleep and beg for food though (and they REALLY beg 🥺)

Overall, I'd like to mention that it is still a good experience to see them up close, but if you do not like or cannot bear to see such settings, please do avoid.

Note: I do not know if the bears get rotated and get to experience time out of their cages, but I really hope so... it looks very sad as is.

0/0 if I could. Miserable place, please refrain from going. Do not support this.

Found this park by coincidence, and since I'm very sceptical to zoo's in general due to poor conditions or unnatural enviroment, I don't go. I'm leaving a comment even though I didn't even visit the park, thank god for that. Just from seeing the reviews and pictures of other people, I cannot understand how this park is even running and I find it crazy that anyone could find this enjoyable.

Bears are not animals that work together in nature, clap to beg for food to be thrown at them or fit in a prison. This is so inhumane and it is very miserable to find this cute or enjoyable. If you removed the beers from the park, this could be the perfect museum to show a concentration camp from World War II.

Please don't take your kids here. It's inhumane to enjoy this torture. Show them bear in their home, the beautiful nature where they...

Wish we read the reviews before we went. This is a sad place. The bears are kept in crowded concrete enclosures without any greenery or shade, standing upright to beg for food from visitors. Some individual bears are locked up behind bars in tiny dark cells, pacing in circles. We don’t know what other rest areas the bears are provided with outside of what visitors are allowed to see, but what we saw seemed inadequate. The saddest sight was a bear cub dressed in children’s clothes, chained to what appeared to be a fake tree stump indoors for tourists to take paid photo shoots. The cub was constantly whimpering and crying when we entered, it was heartbreaking to hear and we left quickly. If you care about the well-being of animals the park will only disappoint and sadden you. We regret not knowing in advance the poor conditions the bears are kept in.

Do NOT visit if you care about animals and how they are being treated. This is by far the worst facility keeping animals that I have seen in my life. The bears are kept in very large numbers in concrete cages with no green, toys or shade begging to be fed. The individual cells are less than 10qm. Three month old bear babies are passed around for photos. We are devastated this kind of animal captivity is even legal in Japan and that Japanese people appreciate this. Wish I had read the reviews of western tourist before never visited this place.
