Takuminoyakata Morino Aquarium is more than just an aquarium – it's a unique and enriching experience. We were warmly welcomed by a friendly lady who spoke some English and guided us through the historic residence, sharing insights about every part of the building. The 3D model of the old Takayama city was particularly impressive, and the paintings exhibited on the second floor were beautiful. Throughout the building, there are bits and pieces of interesting exhibits to discover. Right next door is a charming aquarium, along with a cute horse and some fluffy, free-roaming chickens and ducks. Overall, it was a...

Stumbled across this place after looking for things to do in the area when the weather wasn’t great. What a gem - a beautiful house and a very welcoming host who gave us a tour with English prompts. The diorama of 1950’s Takayama was great.

We also loved the chickens, ducks and horse, and the aquariums with the fish were very impressive.

One of the hosts spoke English and did a wonderful job showing us around this beautiful old farmhouse. You could see where and how they cooked and many beautiful examples of traditional craftsmanship. There is also a small aquarium outside with fresh water fish, some quite large!!
