Taketomi Yugafu-kan — Attraction in Taketomi

Free tourist centre but I will name it a small museum of the life and history of the locals rather than a "tourist centre". This should be the first place you go rather than rushing to the bi-cycle rental or vans for touring around. You MUST NOT miss the 7 minute movie show (very frequent, and with both Chinese and English subtitles) about the locals. For example, there are only 350 residents here on this island ! And you can enjoy air-conditioning in the movie room, really a short hide away...

Everything about Taketomi, history, folk songs, myths, festivals, etc. with Chinese, English and Korean translation. And even a cute kitty!! Worth spending at least an hour here if interested in Taketomi...

歴史と設立の背景 • 開館の年：2004年（平成16年）6月24日に、環境省が西表石垣国立公園のビジターセンターとして「竹富島ゆがふ館」を開館しました。自然・伝統文化・芸能などを紹介する施設として設立されました。  • 開館5周年（2009年）には、島民と館スタッフによる太鼓や踊りの披露、工芸体験ワークショップなど交流イベントが盛大に開催されました。  • 開館20周年（2024年）も迎えて、引き続き竹富島の自然・歴史・文化を伝える拠点として活動中です。

名称の由来と理念 • 「ゆがふ」は「世果報」と書き、「天からのご加護により豊穣を賜る」を意味します。この館は来訪者と島民の交流が豊かになるよう願って名付けられました。

機能・展示内容・役割 • 竹富港から徒歩約1～2分とアクセス抜群な立地にあり、まさに島の玄関口に建つ情報拠点です。  • 展示内容は、竹富島の自然環境、伝統文化、島の生活、歴史、芸能などを網羅。大画面シアターや映像資料、図書コーナーなど、多彩な展示手段を用いて「島の魅力」を伝えます。  • 「竹富島フィールドミュージアム」構想の中心拠点として、6つの関連施設と連携しながら観光や学びを支える役割も担っています。...
