Very much enjoyed the museum on Sunday afternoon! It might take 30-60 mins to see the whole museum and there is a stunning founding story behind it.
Because the founder of the Museum, Yoko Aimoto, was asked to take these mandalas somewhere secure by priests from Tibet who had fled to India around 1985.
So, she brought them back to Japan and happened to find Ryujin by accident, after getting lost trying to visit Koyasan University in Wakayama to consult with the former president of the University. So, she had to stay there. While staying in Ryujin, she thought “Why don’t I open a museum here since the locals treated me nicely.” Thus, here we have it!
Since now Ryujin owns the museum, we can see this beautiful mandala collection for 100 yen per person.
Before going there, we were wondering why the Mandala museum was in the deep mountains of Ryujin…. But now it makes sense.
