Heart Rock — Attraction in Tatsugo

The beauty of the beach and clear waters of the ocean are more worthy of the visit than the heart shaped rock itself. If the tide is not to high, it's nice to bathe inside the heart rock, as it feels like a natural pool. The beach that is accessed through a short path going through a thick vegetation, giving the feeling of walking through a jungle. There is a free parking about 200m from the entrance of the path to the beach. Swimming is not recommended there, due to strong rip currents and the presence of sharks, as clearly indicated by signs at the entrance to the path leading to the beach. According to a local diving instructor I talked to, sharks have been spotted but so far, no shark related issue has occurred. The rock does look somewhat like a heart.

If you plan to visit, then visit during low tide. The rock location is precisely where it shows on Google Maps.

I personally liked the esthetic of the surrounding tide pools and mountains as a backdrop. Even on an overcast day, it was a pretty beach with no people on it.

According to the signs at the trailhead, there are sharks in the water and a strong rip current so be extremely careful and respect the ocean.

奄美大島への旅行は2回目なのですが、奄美の有名観光スポット、ハートロックにはじめて行ってきました。

県道82号から看板も出ているので曲がる場所は分かりやすいと思います。

曲がってから駐車場までも100メートルくらいでしょうか。

分かりやすいと思いますがハートロックに向かう入口が駐車場の手前にありますがその周囲に路駐している観光客のレンタカーが止まっているので分かりやすいと思います。

周辺には他の民間施設もあるのですぐ先に駐車場があるのでそちらに停めた方が良さそうです。

駐車場は無料です。

ハートロックに向かって入っていく茂みも薄暗くこの先に本当にあるのかジャングル見たいな不安な道ですがちゃんと辿り着けるので大丈夫です。 ジャングルの動画もアップしておきます。

干潮が16時50分と気象庁の潮位表に載っていたので、それに合わせて行きました。

しっかり見えていたのですが、波が高くてサンダルが流されるくらいの状態で、1人の方は強めの波に足を取られてハートロックの中に転落していましたが幸いにも無事でよかったです。

ハートロック自体が意外に深く成人が全身浸かるくらいの深さなので波が高い時は気をつけるか無理に写真を撮るのは避けた方がいいのかも知れないです｡

観光で来ていた方はウチも含めて数組と思っていたよりは少なかったのですが、順番に撮影待ちをして順番が回ってきた方が撮影しようとハートロックの周りに行っている時に前の方が撮影のじゃまになるような行為を一部の観光の方がしているのも見られました。
