Teshio History Museum — Attraction in Teshio

I visited the Teshio History Museum with my family last August, and it was a memorable experience. The museum offers a fascinating look into the region’s rich history, with exhibits that tell the story of Teshio’s early settlement and development. As we walked through the museum, I was reminded of the Akarenga in Sapporo City, both in terms of the historical significance and the charming atmosphere. The Teshio History Museum, with its well-curated displays and informative exhibits, provides a wonderful opportunity to learn about the area’s past while enjoying the peaceful setting. It’s definitely a place worth visiting if you're looking to connect with the local heritage.

平成元年（1989年)オープン。 建物は、昭和26年(1951年)に建築され｢赤レンガ｣という愛称で親しまれていた旧役場庁舎が再活用されています。 明治の頃、道路や鉄道が整備されていなかった頃、天塩川は貴重な交通路でした。 旭川の北、上流の士別市を起点に、上りには米､味噌､酒､呉服､雑貨などの生活物資､下りには農産物､薪炭などを積んだ､約40万石(米約100俵ほど)積みの船「長門丸」が、天塩川を運航していたそう。 館内には、その復元模型や貴重な歴史的な資料が展示されているそうです。 オープンは4/20〜10/31までと限られています。 訪問時は残念ながら閉館中でした。
