Disappointing Fishing Experience Despite a Nice Setting
The fishing ponds were clean, and the cold water was refreshing, which made for a pleasant environment. However, the overall fishing experience was disappointing. There were too few fish in the ponds. It seemed like only a small number were released into the upper ponds, and even fewer made their way to the lower ponds where we were fishing.
Our group of 10 friends bought each 3,000 yen worth of fishing sticks, but only one person managed to catch a single fish. Most of us even bought three fish bags, which ended up being unnecessary. It was a bit ironic when one of the staff mentioned we could buy extra bags if we caught more fish — clearly not the case here.
For the price, it would have been fair if at least each person had the chance to catch 2–3 fish. Unfortunately, this spot didn’t deliver, and I wouldn’t recommend it. There are definitely better fishing locations around the Okutama area that offer a more...
Read moreWorst place I ever visited for river fishing. Takes a long long time to only buy ticket for roughly 2 hours during GW week in Japan. Totally wasting of time to just pay money. But maybe it is not their fault that it is my fault because I decided to come here by myself. I really want to punch my face. But anyhow hoping this lesson and learn helps people who will be coming here during holiday season. I can't understand why they never tried to improve their operation of the ticket counter....

While fishing, the ground staff were helpful and attentive. Our hooks went a little deep into the trouts and Mr Yamato assisted us with the removal of hooks! Appreciate it very much!
We will be there if we visit Tokyo again! Akigawa was a rejuvenating day trip for us.
Directions to Akigawa for a tourist like me: Take bus 15 (yozawa line) at 8.20am in the morning from the train station and alight outside Akigawa trout fishing. Note: There are other frequent buses but the bus stop will be 1.8km away. Bus 15 only has less than 5...
