A real Tokyo treasure, and not at all like the sterility of Tokyo Castle parks or any of the more formal garden parks. Really relaxing and refreshing. Chiyoda Line to Kanamachi, then take the bus (save your energy) to the park. Don't miss it.
Take the time to get to know this park. It's got lovely Iris in June -- when there's a month-long celebration of the flower with entertainment at night. Big stream fuledl by local rivers. Tucked into the south end of it, you can see a variety of ornamental koi being raised in ponds. I think the fish help support the park activities, but once a year in the spring you can purchase them at very, very reasonable prices. I have one.
There are a few restaurants in the park, and a place to BBQ. Don't have a BBQ? No worries, you can rent the equipment and purchase the food right there, but I think the BBQ times are restricted so call ahead.
Rent some bikes and travel the length and breadth of the park, or park the bike in the shade or in a sunny field to nap. Nice nature center too, where you can learn about the park's...
Read moreAmazing place for bbq and for kids they got a lot of space as playground. It was quite windy and cold when we went there but it was worth it. They have got all the things for bbq and also chairs and tables which you can rent for 4-5 hours until 4:30 pm. Be warned that they can’t seem to speak English quite well so take someone who can speak Japanese, otherwise you might be the ones who would be doing the bbq without any chairs and tables. 😂
I had to ask them twice, first time I was told that I had to book chairs and tables 1 month in advance 😂!!! Then upon asking again another person we were able to get chairs and tables. They were quite cheap for rent.
Overall very good experience. It was reminding me of Hyde park of London without all the...
Read moreThis is an absolutely beautiful park. It’s nearer to our home than Ueno Park, less crowded and more scenic, so we’re so happy we paid it a visit! Together with the adjacent Saitama park, there’s a lot to do for families of all ages. Lots of playgrounds with slides and swings (and a flying fox), a campsite, bbq areas, fishing, etc. Our only irk is that there really needs to be a few more bridges. It took us 40mins to stroll back from our picnic spot to the car! Don’t underestimate the size of this park, especially if you’re carrying picnic things (luckily we weren’t!) or it’s raining. If you have smaller children, best to park on the Saitama side where the bigger...
