Yodo Sea Cave — Attraction in Toyooka

Rock Cave of Yodo 淀の洞門 There is a highlight feature of rock formation next to Kirihama Beach is this Rock cave of Yodo. There is a folk legend of this cave associated with a Japanese ancient deity " Susano Mikoto " who is often enshrined as their god in many Shinto shrines. Once upon a time a group of oni which is demonic ogres lived in this cave and caused series of troubles to villagers around this area. Hearing this news Susano Mikoto came to this rock cave with his ship to exterminate these ogres on his way to Izumo. Upon this visit Susano Mikoto left his ship along the shore. After he exterminated ogres he headed to Okusui district next to this village leaving his ship in here and it is believed the ship turned itself to a rock. There is snorkeling service offering a visit around this rock cave in this area.
