Good place for mini-hike. Can be finished in 4 hr round trip. The view is great, if you start around 8 am you should bring lunch because if you bring nothing you will be hungry and watch other people eat yummy stuff at noon 🤤🤤 there are no convenient store near the shrine...

Good place for mini-hike. Can be finished in 4 hr round trip. The view is great, if you start around 8 am you should bring lunch because if you bring nothing you will be hungry and watch other people eat yummy stuff at noon 🤤🤤 there are no convenient store near the shrine please bring food.

猿投神社は、三河国三宮で、猿投山の麓に鎮座しています。 主祭神は日本武尊の双子の兄、大碓命 （おおうすのみこと）です。 宝亀10年（779年）に編纂された縁起書によれば、大碓命は景行天皇52年に猿投山中で蛇毒のために42歳で死去したのだとか。 猿投山西峯にある西宮の背後に、大碓命のお墓があります。 茅で作られた大きな輪をくぐる「茅の輪くぐり」に行ってきました。 読み方は「ちのわくぐり」だそうですが、「かやのわくぐり」と呼ぶ人もいるようです。 茅の輪を三回、8の字を描くようにくぐりました。 茅の輪くぐりとは、神社境内に設置された茅で作れた大きな輪をくぐることで、無病息災・厄除け・家内安全を祈願する行事です。 多くの神社で、主に6月30日頃に行われる「夏越の祓（なごしのはらえ）」という儀式の中で行われます。 茅の輪をくぐることで、生活の中で知らず知らずのうちについてしまった災いや厄を払うことができるんだとか。 猿投神社では、古来より「左鎌」を奉納して祈願する習慣があるそうです。 古老の伝によれば、双生児は一方が左利きであり、祭神・大碓命は左利きだったんだとか。 それで大碓命が当地の開拓に使ったであろう左鎌が奉納されるようになったらしいです。 猿ゆかりで、江戸末期の作といわれる親子の三匹の猿の彫刻があります。 いつでかけても幽玄な山の雰囲気が素敵な神社です。
