When we moved here 3 years ago we first found out this beach was called ‘Trash Beach’. Sadly it is still true. There is a lot of trash that washes ashore, but also a lot left by the locals. This is busy weekend night life location for the locals and as such many sleep on the picnic tables and around, and leave a lot of trash and broken glass after their night of partying and racing their motorcycles up and down the road in front of the beach and leaving their firework debris all around, particularly out on the piers for the waves to eventually wash away. Also, that area and on that road is a popular site for illegal dumping, like tvs and all sorts of trash. Quite sad really, otherwise could be a perfect spot. I still love taking walks there and occasionally taking the kids to the beach so still rating a 4. They just put in a dog park (spring 2023.) You can pay to have BBQ there, and they have some activities on the weekends. Thanks for being our little beach and for the memories. .

Beach located near the Courtney family housing gate. Early morning you can catch the locals fishing or out for a morning stroll/run. There is a parking area that cost ¥500. However, I have not used so unsure of the schematic/hourly rate. There is a roped off area so individuals could swim. Have seen a lot of people diving/snorkeling also in the early morning. They have area where you can sit and have a little bbq/get together. But I have noticed some people do not pick up after themselves. Which is very unfortunate for others who frequently visit this beach. They have a bathroom and a shack that rents gear when the beach is open. Wish they had some volunteers to clean this area up!

Nice beach, rentals available, seasonal for swimming. At the time of this post (31 Mar) beach is closed for swimming, however no charge for parking. No toilet paper in the public bathrooms byop or buy from the rentals shack. Relatively quiet and peaceful. Locals park out on the street so free parking is potentially available even during the busy season. It is adjacent to an industrial plant so water quality may be questionable.

Uken Beach is a delightful destination that offers a perfect blend of relaxation and recreational activities. One of the standout features of this beach is that it's free and accessible to the public, making it an ideal spot for families and individuals looking to enjoy a day by the water without breaking the bank.

The beach boasts two stone piers that provide fantastic opportunities for fishing and leisurely walks, allowing visitors to soak in the beautiful ocean views. For families, the designated swimming area is a major highlight, enclosed with a net and floating buoy, making it safe for kids to snorkel and explore the underwater life. The periodic inflatable parks add an extra layer of fun for the little ones, ensuring they have plenty of activities to keep them entertained.

Convenience is key at Uken Beach, with a small shop right off the shore offering a variety of sweets and treats—perfect for cooling off after a day in the sun. The presence of public bathrooms and lifeguards on duty adds to the overall safety and comfort of the beach experience.

For those driving to the beach, there is a paid parking lot available, which is a small price to pay for the stunning views and amenities provided. Additionally, the gazebos equipped with benches and tables offer a great spot for picnicking or simply relaxing while enjoying the scenery.

If you're looking for a bit of exercise, Uken Beach is conveniently located just 1.1 miles away from Camp Courtney Gate One, making it a perfect endpoint for a morning run with breathtaking views to reward your efforts.

Overall, Uken Beach is a fantastic spot that caters to all ages, offering a wonderful mix of leisure, fun, and safety, all in a picturesque setting. Whether you're fishing off the pier, swimming in the designated area, or simply enjoying a treat from the shop, you're sure to have a memorable day...

As someone currently building a house near Uken Beach, I have a few complaints.

Parking. Being charged for parking at a public beach should be a crime. People just park on the shoulder outside but technically can be ticketed. But who wants to pay ¥500 for a beach thats:

Dirty. It looks like there is very little effort to care for the beach. Seaweed was all over the swimming part of the beach, and there was trash in other areas. Clean up the beach if you're going to charge for parking. But not just parking, you charge for:

Showers. Are you kidding me? ¥200 for a 5 minute shower in an unclean shower facility exposed to anyone and not clearly marked? That being said, it is a beach in Okinawa, so it's...
