Discover Japan's Hidden Gem: The Enchanting Glass Jellyfish Sea of Yakushima 🌊✨

If you're on Yakushima this is a wonderful experience. Natural warm spring that comes out in pools adjacent to the sea. The spring has that slightly volcanic sulfur smell but it's not overwhelming. Nice mix of sea and volcanic water. Lovely bamboo sun protection so you can sit there comfortably. Mixed gender, and fully nude is the local expectation, so please respect that. Bring own towel and note no enclosed place to change, so need to be comfortable. I was there with local women and they were very helpful explaining where they could in English. The comments about visiting +/- 2 hours from low tide is right. The sea rise means the pools end up under the water level, so you don't get the same experience if you're there at the wrong time. Walk is about 5-10 minutes from the main road and bus stop (uphill from onsen), or there is parking 100m away if driving.

Wow! Breathtaking this onsen! Pictures are not allowed but there was just me when I went so took the liberty 🙊 you have to check the tide before going, if it’s too high u can’t go in because the sea water covers it up. Maybe the most beautiful and peaceful place in yakushima. There’s no division for men and women so you go in completely naked with maybe a completely naked stranger next to you. Interesting fact, some little fishes get into the onsen due to tide and sea waves but as they can’t make it back and onsen water temperature is so high they die 😔 Such a unique experience all in all. It has a contribution fee of 500¥ to maintain the place

Beautiful rotenburo (outdoor onsen)! Views are great, the temperature of the different pools vary, so you should find one that's just right. Make sure you check the times for low tide and remember this one's a mixed bath and no swimsuits allowed. Women can wear a bathing towel (like a cloth dress), see photo. Honestly, it's a little intimidating being so exposed as the path to the onsen is elevated so people can see you from 50m away and there are a few occupied houses in very close proximity, but if you can get past that, it's great!

Very cool place. Highly recommend. The low tide that day was around 2pm; we went around 4:30pm and it was still very good. Almost everyone was local. No one was wearing swim suits, but all the men and women were using towels to cover their bodies. I unfortunately didn’t bring a towel, so I went in fully naked… The people were respectful, but I was worried that I offended them… oh well. Before you go in, grab a little basin and wash yourself with the water from the two smaller pools.

excellent experience - Soak in warm water while looking at the crashing waves. Can’t wear swimming costume but women can wear towel dress or even just a light cotton regular dress. Men take a towel to go round your waist. Notice says best experienced 3hrs before low tide to 3hrs after low tide. Google to find low tide. Actually liked it 4 hrs after low tide - waves start coming into the hot pools - you get the mix if hot volcanic water with warm seawater.
