I went in with no expectations nor did I even know the artist!! It was only 500yen for the admission so I figured "why not?" It's a very compact museum (read: small) but perfect and easy to squeeze into one's itinerary.
I left with a new favorite artist on my list of artists!! I highly recommend reading the description of each work. If you can't read Japanese, just use the Google translate photo function.
It's unlike woodblock art I've seen and am accustomed to. It's east meets west.
The layers are exquisite, sometimes only a light sparkly undertone in the first layer.
My favorite part was being able to make my own woodblock postcards, layer by layer. I've always wanted to do this!! Be sure to follow the instructions so you don't get the stamp colors mixed up and dirty!
I was the only person in the museum. You can't take pictures of the works but I think other areas are fine.
Even kids can enjoy coloring and the play space. The architecture of the building was nice. I felt refreshed by the surroundings and increased wellness. It could also be because it was a quiet Thursday afternoon, close to closing time.
The location is great, just next to the free foot bath place and road stop.
One of the pamphlets is in English. Apparently they rotate the works so I'll come again some day... if I'm in town?!
