湧別兵村、その名の通り屯田兵が開拓した街です。屯田兵には何が求められたのか、どんな人が屯田兵になったのかなど、聞き取りエピソードがあり大変面白いです。 また、屯田兵が解体されたあと、元屯田兵たちは公有財産を持ち、それが多額の資産だったため、湧別村運営には彼らの寄付金が欠かせなく、村長が議会にかけるというよりも彼らにお伺いをしていったなど中々知られないエピソード満載。 1Fには屯田兵の住宅が丸々移築されています。 となりのチューリップ畑はまだ咲いてませんでしたw
