Hottai Falls is a waterfall in the city of Yurihonjō, Akita Prefecture, Japan, on the Akasawa River, a tributary of the Koyoshi River system in the foothills of Mount Chōkai. It is one of "Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls", in a listing published by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment in 1990.

日本の滝百選の中でも、迫力のある滝のひとつです。2回目の訪問ですが、1回目には無かった(見落としていた？)展望台から俯瞰すると、滝全体が確認できます。一方、河原では夏には水遊びが出来るので、子供連れにも人気のキャンプ場となっています。 2025年8月現在、主要アクセスルートの一つである県道70号から百宅集落を経由する東側ルートは、Googleマップではあたかも通行できるかの様に誘導されますが通行止めです。西側ルート(途中までホテルフォレスタ鳥海へのアクセスと同じ)からはアプローチできます。 法体の滝は、現在建設中の鳥海ダムによって沈むのでは？と危惧している方もいるかと思いますが、ダム水位は平常時が標高411.6m、洪水時の最高水位が標高419.2mなのに対し、法体の滝の滝壺の標高は420m以上あるので洪水時であってもダムの水面下に沈むことはありませんし、隣接するキャンプ場も残ります。実際には滝から500mほど下流にある既設の砂防ダムまでが鳥海ダムの最高水位となります。そもそも最高水位となる時は大雨により法体の滝への道路は通行止めに...
