If you are looking for an amusement park then this isn’t the place for you - However, if you are looking for an experience that takes you back through the centuries in picturesque surroundings and building steeped in history, then this is the place. Jersey Heritage has cleverly used different areas of Hamptonne to represent the story and evolution of the site through the ages. You can explore rooms in the decor of their relevant periods and really get a sense of what conditions were like. The gardens are lovely for a picnic with free-range chickens wandering about and a children’s play area (although quite basic) to keep younger visitors entertained while their parents/grandparents soak in the history. There is a beautiful walk down the valley and a atmospheric bit of woodland and a stream (a rare sight in Jersey). There are often “Living History” reenactors on the site which really brings the place to life and, while staying in character, they are always happy to educate on the periods their characters lived. There are often live animals to pet and an annual festival where you can water cider being traditionally manufactures from the crushing of the apples using a granite wheel pulled by a horse, to the cider pressing. This is one of the most interesting places you can visit to bring...
Read moreWe had the most wonderful visit to Hamptonne Country Museum last week in Jersey. We love open air museums and this did not disappoint. Staff were super helpful and welcoming, especially Dave who went out of his way to tell us about the museum, the Colombier and the animals. He also gave a great talk about the traditional of Cider making. There are several buildings to visit which highlight what life was like on this farm in different time periods and we learnt all about the Jersey bonnet, herbs, different dishes to cook and how the animals were used. We got to feed chickens which delighted my son and see piglets and Jersey Cows. There are lovely grounds to walk around. The cafe had a good selection of cakes, sandwiches and ice creams. We are so glad we went, we learnt so much and had a really lovely time there., We would definitely go back when we...
Read moreSurprisingly enjoyable visit. Didn't know what to expect but we caught the bus from St Helier & walked down the small lanes to the farm where we were welcomed & immediately offered a guided tour. First stop was the cider barn with complimentary tasting. Then a tour of the farm buildings showing life through the centuries. Dave, the brilliant guide was interesting & entertaining. A few farm animals to see, chickens to feed & on our visit several week old chickens to ooh & aaah over ❤️. The hard working staff are volunteers & you can tell they are very proud of their museum. There is even a lovely lady showing you how to make bonnets. Sadly we didn't have time to visit the tea room as the buses only run once an hour. Thoroughly...
