If you ever visit Jersey then make sure you have time to pay a visit to these Botanic Gardens. They are absolutely beautiful and the smells of the flowers and plants are incredible. Great even just to visit, find a quiet spot and chill with a book. I guarantee if you visit you will want to go back. I am not really into Japanese Gardens but the Japanese Garden here is outstanding and has certainly changed my mind. I also loved how part of the garden is sectioned into seasons of the year so you can easily see what works. My only criticism is the Roses were absolutely beautiful but unfortunately not all of them had signs to say what name/variety they were so will make it difficult to get the same rose for my own garden. Cafe is lovely and great value so much so that we had breakfast and lunch there. For the Scots they do a Full Scottish Breakfast with Lorne Sausage. My wife ordered a Portugese Roll with Lorne Sausage. The roll was large with two slices of sausage. It was that big that we ended up sharing There is also a lovely gift shop. It cost nearly £10 for entry for an adult but well worth the entry fee. As we will be back in Jersey at some point over the next year my wife ended up buying an annual pass which was £40. It allows her to take a guest for free everytime she visits and 10% discount on anything purchased from the gift shop. We will defo be back to see what it looks like at a different time of the year as we...
Read moreA lovely venue with plenty to see and do around the site. The gardens are easily navigated with many benches on which to rest. The pathways are clear although there are rough or difficult ones to follow if you choose. Some plants have names to identify them but the vast majority don't which is a pity as I would like to think we can be educated as well as being entertained. The cafe on site is staffed by some of the nicest people I've ever met who provide an excellent service and, more's to the point, the food is good quality too. Don't expect 'haute cuisine' but it is worth trying. The shop captures us on entry and exit and has the usual collection of 'stuff'. The lady I met there on arrival in the morning was open and friendly. I can't say the same for the lady who was there when we left but if that is the only negative then that's nothing to worry about. All in all I reckon that if you want to sit down and relax whilst meandering through the grounds, utilise the children's playground, try and spy some of the fish in the murky waters, see different fruit trees and bushes or sit down with a nice lunch and cooling drink (or hot one) then this is the place to spend...
Read moreAfter visiting you last Monday, I left feeling disappointed. As head of grounds and gardens on a private estate, stately home and tourist attraction , I do believe it was under par for being open for the season. Weeds everywhere, edging of turf laying, brash left lying, grass uncut, tree ties damaging plants, debris from winter/spring still visible .I'm afraid alot of basic tasks that should of been implemented prior to season opening. I do understand that alot of guests would not pick up on some of these but presentation is the key if you wish to ask prices like that to come in.On a happier note, shop and cafe staff were very polite and I did make a purchase of plants to bring back to the Scottish borders.
Thank you for your interesting reply.. in answer to your question, for our 150 acre grounds and gardens there are 2 full time and one seasonal gardeners....
