Read moreNOT FOR WESTERN SENSIBILITIES
I live in Jordan in a dirty little Bedouin village that I love, and sleep on rocks on horseback riding overnight trips, so I'm not being picky, just giving an honest review from a western woman.
Pros: on the site of an old byzantine church. The site is stunning and almost worth a day trip for the beautiful site. - Pools are amazing. Water is hot and plentiful. Price of admission includes camping. scramble down to the river and there is hot water down at least a few kms with some beautiful little cool water waterfalls dripping into a warm water river. Quite amazing.
Cons: no concession, no food, no supplies, (not really a con because everyone just brings their own stuff anyway, including campstove) made for men. The men have 3 beautiful outdoor pools. The women have one indoor pool that's filled with all the kids. You'll be the only westerner and the kids will mob you with curiosity. You won't get one second of peace or relaxation. I got up early to get the pool to myself, and found it drained and empty in the morning for "cleaning" , which I think just means draining the water.
The women can only shower in an inconvenient outbuilding near the main gate instead of the regular bath complex. They HAVE 6 showers in the women's restroom at the main complex, but they don't have showerheads, and there was no water at night. Maybe they think the women will steal all the showerheads? Idk. trash EVERYWHERE: even in the pools. There's a few campsites on dirt and quite a few under canopies in the mein complex that are nice, but when those are full, you can camp on the trash dump where people dump all their trash from their cars before they leave. Our camp almost flooded and one of our people went and cleared the main drain of trash to get it to work again. no quiet time: jordanians are night owls and it was fairly quiet during the day, but people started arriving in droves around 10 pm to start dinner. They bring near commercial level sound systems and play music at club decibels until 4 or so. not accessible: toilets are up 3 floors. Pools would be difficult to access if you have disabilities Uncleaned slippery tile and flowing water everywhere. flies are terrible: everyone cooks and basically dumps their excess food in the flowing water , and does their dishes in it. So the flies are horrible. The tiniest spill of tea or jam will be covered in...
Read moreVery nice place. For sure the bath for women is a somehow small, but made inside solid rock. This place is made mainly for locals and one should understand that this place has other customs and traditions. Don't go there if you look for western spa. It is place of relaxation and communication. For me it was a place where I could see and talk with women and girls about our everyday life (with the mix of my poor arabic and english). Also it should be mentioned that there are great resting areas and separate toilets and showers are new and clean. Great place to talk with local people (everyone is very-very friendly). My only suggetion - can you please put sign of women and men bathes in english or just picture? There were only arabic description and we...
