The Azraq Wetlands Reserve is truly a delightful escape into nature's embrace, a welcome contrast to the surrounding desert landscape of Jordan. From the moment you arrive, a sense of tranquility washes over you. The 8 JD entrance fee feels more than reasonable for the opportunity to witness such a vibrant ecosystem. What struck me most was the sheer number of birds. It was an absolute treat for any nature lover, whether you're an avid birder or simply appreciate the beauty of these creatures in their natural habitat. I was amazed to learn that over 200 species have been recorded here, and it was easy to see why. The air was alive with their calls and the sight of them soaring overhead or wading through the clean waters was captivating. The reserve itself is well-maintained, and it's clear that efforts are being made to preserve this precious environment. The pathways are easy to navigate, allowing for leisurely strolls and excellent vantage points for observing the wildlife. The cleanliness of the area was also notable, contributing to the overall pleasant experience. It's refreshing to see a natural space so well cared for. Beyond the birds, the atmosphere of the Azraq Wetlands Reserve is simply rejuvenating. The gentle sounds of the water and the rustling reeds create a peaceful ambiance. It's a place where you can truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and reconnect with the natural world. For anyone visiting Jordan, a trip to the Azraq Wetlands Reserve is highly recommended. It's a testament to the beauty and importance of wetland ecosystems and offers a fantastic opportunity to witness the diverse birdlife that calls this oasis home. The experience is well worth the modest entrance fee, leaving you feeling refreshed and with a newfound appreciation for Jordan's...

What a wonderful surprising gem. Beautiful nature, peaceful and respectful environment, and knowledgeable staff.

I did not expect to find such a place in the middle of the desert. We visited in autumn and even at that time of year there was still water. Our guide, Anwar, was very knowledgeable about the ecosystem and local species.

The wetlands reserve is definitely worth a visit. Navigating the tail was easy and safe. The trail is mostly flat, with a few steps and areas with uneven ground. The boardwalks through the water were well maintained. The paths showed animal and vehicle tracks, and looked like they may get muddy when the water levels are higher. The displays inside the entrance centre were very nicely done. Our visit was very informative, and I left with a much better understanding of Jordan's nature and water systems.

Suitable for younger children as long as they're up for a the walk. There is an outdoor jungle gym play area inside the reserve, near the entrance centre.

Tip: plan your visit for the morning rather than the afternoon, in order to improve your chances of seeing more birds and possibly...

This was an amazing experience. We took the 3 km walking trail with a guide. There are several stops where you can sit and watch nature. The birds and animals you see will depend on your luck and how quiet it was. We had a buffalo appear. It looked at us and then went its way. We saw several different types of birds and ducks. The walk is outside, so make sure to choose a time when the weather is acceptable for you to walk a while. We went in a lovely time, at the end of winter, at the beginning of spring so the weather was cool and the sun was very pleasant. At the beginning of the trip, you enter a room with information on the walls explaining the history of the area and this reserve. You learn about the animals that lived there and why are left and why. You also learn about the people of the area and their origins. I love walking, so this activity was perfect for me. I also enjoy taking pictures of nature. It also means a lot to me to see the animals roaming freely. The place is clean and...

We had an excellent family experience at the reserve! Our guide Ja'far, was thoughtful and patient as he offered great information and entertained our curious questions. We opted for the 3km buffalo hike. Saw more than 12 types of birds, no buffalos, but that didn't take away from our experience. We had missed the peak migration season but we absolutely loved getting to spot the birds we did. Definitely worth a second visit! There's a nice playground and a small informative exhibition that plots the deterioration of the beautiful wetland over several decades. Definitely get your professional zoom lens (the ones here are my phone ones) and if you have one get a fancy binocular. I had to juggle between Merlin, binocular and camera! Instead open to just pause and view the majestic animals from the birdhide.

The day was yellowish-brownish from the sand in the air and nobody but me visited the reserve. The ancient oasis used to be rich in water, however, today the springs are used as a source of water supplies for Amman, so the water levels keep dropping leaving mudflats and marshland. Still, it is an amazing place for bird-watching since many species of migrating birds use it as their stopover or winter breeding shelter. The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) has built watch-posts as well as a visitor center with audiovisual production telling the story of the oasis and modern threats to its existence. If you are a bird lover, do not forget to pay a visit when you visit Jordan; it's less than an hour drive from Amman.
