Best beach on all of the Hawaiian islands, if you're able to get on to Hickam Air Force base.
Lottery is about 14 to 18 in deep and stays that way for about half a mile or more.
You can float in there all day and you will not be washed away to see, plus you get to see both military and commercial jets fly overhead every few minutes.
The water is super warm because it is so shallow, so that's my favorite beach on all of the Hawaiian Islands.
The beach huts are from around the World War 1 time frame and are currently in limbo because the government wants to get rid of them and the historical preservation Society wants to keep them, but doesn't have the money to restore them. These buildings used to be the officers quarters for most of last century.
There are two WWI & WWII battery's located on Kamehameha beach, also, currently locked up, with...
Read moreGreat for families! It's a small beach but has two lifeguard towers so lots of extra eyes on the little ones. The water is pretty flat for quite a ways out, so perfect for kids to swim. There are "cabanas" (pavilions) that are reservation only (free) with a military ID and they have a picnic table and a grill. On site is an outdoor shower to wash off the sand, public restrooms, and the restaurant nearby (The Lanai) is pretty great. You can see one of the airport runways from the beach and it's lots of fun to watch the planes take off and land. The beach itself doesn't require a military ID but it is located in Hickam AFB so you need access to the base to be able...
Read moreThe beach is shallow (I don't think the water even reached my knees and I'm 5"1) and that shallowness extends for a great distance, so it's perfect for tots because there isn't the usual fear of drowning associated with beaches where the waves are rougher and the ground can suddenly dip beneath one's feet. It's rather rocky a little ways in the water though, so swimming isn't really an option and without water shoes, walking in it can be a bit rough. It's perfect for stand up paddleboarding though (as long as you can balance and won't likely fall on the aforementioned rocks) and the sunsets there...
