Karkaraly National Park — Attraction in Karaganda Region

There are many affordable accommodation options though it seems that none are posted to online booking websites (which perhaps adds to the attraction of this National Park, since it is yet to be fully discovered). The park itself will require around 5 days to explore in depth with the area separated into two distinct parks, the smaller of the two is a 30 minute drive from Karkaraly/Karkaralinsk where a Buddhist historical site at 'Kent' may be visited. The park itself is utterly tranquil with almost no visitors venturing into the interior. It is thoroughly authentic and as such, I can recommend it to all. From Karaganda, bus prices range from 1,200-2,600 approximately. Note, that from Karaganda bus station (at the train station) tickets are fully booked online many days before and as such they will not sell you any at the physical ticket office, however, there were still seats sometimes available when approaching the driver, so this is very important to note, but on both occasions I used the service it really was almost 100% occupied. This was a great place though was very hard to find the specific parts that I was looking for within it. I really enjoyed driving on this terrain was a lot of fun in my 4x4 I was able to drive almost right to the top of the mountain. Some parts would have been a bit of a challenge to drive without a 4x4 but there are plenty of places to park and many people hike up to the top. Каркаралинский национальный природный парк организован в 1988 году, с целью охраны горно-лесных ландшафтов и уникальных объектов природы, развития туризма и улучшения отдыха населения. Площадь – более 90 000 га. Парк расположен на территории Каркаралинского района Карагандинской области.

Территория парка охватывает живописнейшие горно-степные массивы, занимает невысокие горы Каркаралы и Кент, расположенные в восточной части Казахского мелкосопочника. Каркаралинско-Кентский горный узел состоит из пяти относительно обособленных друг от друга горных групп: Бугулы, Шанкоза, Матена, Аиртау и Кента.

Наибольшая высота Каркаралинских гор 1403 м, горного массива Кент — 1469 м. В далеком прошлом здесь возвышались более мощные хребты, которые со временем разрушились и разделились на множество мелких гряд и сопок. Их крутые склоны сильно расчленены эрозией, и скалистые гребни чередуются с глубокими ущельями и долинами. Обнаженные во многих местах гранитные плиты как будто наложены друг на друга в виде каменных «матрацев», а отдельные скалистые останцы имеют самые причудливые очертания.

По горным ущельям сбегают ключи, дающие начало небольшим речкам.

На территории парка расположен ряд живописных озёр – Шайтанколь, Бассейн, Пашенное, Улькенколь.
