Kyzylorda Regional Museum — Attraction in Kyzylorda

This museum used to be located in the center of town but has been relocated a little way out of town now, over on the West Bank of the Syr Darya river. The location shown on Google Maps is correct, but the taxi drivers seem to be unaware of the new location. Be sure to show them the new address before heading out or you will take an impromptu tour of Kyzylorda like I did!

The new facility is very nice and the displays are well done. All signage is available in Kazakh, Russian, and English. The place was very quiet when I visited and I was alone for most of the time I was there. Ticket price is only 300 tenge ($0.60 USD) when I visited in June 2025. A really great museum with English descriptions. A lot of displays are interactive. The price is cheap, the history is really interesting, highlighting the most important things about the region. Really worth visiting. The only problem is that the museum is far from the city and you can't get there by any means beside a taxi or on foot. The museum is very interesting, portraying different aspects of Kyzlorda history, from the beginnings, passing through Soviet times and ending in the modern independent Kazakhstan. Unfortunately there is barely any English information displayed, and even the use of Russian language is limited. To fully appreciate this museum you need to be able to understand Kazakh language.
