Abai Museum — Attraction in Semey

Worst customer service starting from ticket counter. Paid 2000 tenge for entry fee and 1000 tenge for audio guide. The head phone for the audio guide didn't work and I went to change it. The lady attending me seemed to be complaining to her colleague about my complaint as she was serving me.

I went in at about 10am. I was monitored and hurried along. The attendants there talked which sometimes made it difficult for me to listen to the audio guide. The audio guide kept repeating the introduction in the entry hall upstairs so i had to remember the numbers at the exhibits to key in and listen to them elsewhere. I was told the audio guide would play automatically but it didn't apart from at the said entry hall.

By about 11.15 am, the security guard and one of the ladies, by their gestures (repeatedly pointing to their wrists and the door), asked me to leave. I didn't know there was a time limit in visiting the museum. I felt it was really insulting to be treated like a thief though I can't imagine what I would want from the museum. Most of the exhibits, except for the bulky sculptures, were in glass casings.

Horrendous. I don't know whether the deplorable treatment I got was because of my looks or because I didnt speak the local language. Either way, if that's how you treat foreigners perhaps you should just deny entry to foreigners. We can both save time and grief, and for the foreigner, money as well. Prices for entry for locals were lower, by the way.

Regret visiting this place as it was the only museum in Semey where I had a terrible experience. The customer service at the other 2 museums were professional.

There is a saying by Abai, “People bow to wealth and fine clothes, but not to truth or good sense" Maybe you should heed his saying instead of paying patronage.
