Lake Nakuru has retained her rustic beauty despite massive pollution. The incumbent governor at this point of writing, H.E. Susan Kihika has done a tremendous job to rehabilitate the city and the dying lake.

The flamingos left. The ambitious experiments at the geothermal plant in Naivasha resulted in rising water levels. Once the beaches of the lake, and the breeding grounds of flamingos were destroyed, the royal birds flew to an unknown destination.

Nevertheless, Lake Nakuru National Park is still home to the Big Five. Large herds of buffaloes as well as antelopes, dik-dik, and troops of monkeys are easily visible during daytime.

It is ill-advised to walk around...

Lake Nakuru Lanet Gate is one of the entry gates to lake Nakuru National Park. It is a beautiful place to see wildlife in their natural habitat. There is a good variety of animals and bird life. In fact it is one of the few places mostly known for the flamingo populations. It has beautiful locations for picnics with beautiful views. Makalia falls is also in the park which has a story of its own. The park is just a few minutes drive from Nakuru Town so it makes it easily accessible. I highly recommend a visit but during the rainy season you are 100% better...

Awful access to park. All entry passes must be paid for online using kenya ecitizen, no cash or card facilities on the gate. The ecitizen accepts foreign cards for usd payments (as for person entry) but does not accept them for shilling payments (as for car entry). The gate has very slow WiFi and unhelpful staff. There is a very helpful man in the nearby gift shop who will pay using mpesa but he will charge a small fee. Advice is to sort it out before you get to the gate and don't expect any help from...

Lake Nakura national park is spectacular. One can see a sea of pink flamingos in the lake. Vast open space of Nakura lake one can spot flamingos from a wide angle to a nearest. We spotted wild boars , rhinos, giraffes. In lake Nakura we spotted different varieties of birds too. You are not allowed to get down of your vehicle, there is a hefty fine if you do so. Though the park is not huge visiting it is worth the trip.
