The experience was extra ordinary and that it hosts Sarova Shaba Lodge which we were staying at. Shaba Reserve makes one of the Samburu Reserves that parks Buffalo Springs and Samburu Reserve parks. Sarova Shaba is the only hotel that is in this Reserve and the other hotels are spread across the other 3 reserves. We were lucky to spot a cheetah here, reticulated giraffes and gerenuk and a few other animals that I now don't recall. The sun set here is a marvel and the pictures don't lie about the place at all. Ewaso Nyiro river also cuts across into Shaba as well as Samburu Reserve or Park. We went to Shaba in the evening and the other game drives we did at the other 2 reserves. You are required to pay for park fees at 800 or 1000 KES for residents times number of nights you'll be staying there which can be used for game drives in all...

This embodies one of the best and unique camping experiences with family.

They only have special campsites and you have to have two guides / rangers throughout your stay. Although the guides / rangers are not part of the 7500 special campsites booking fee, they are in particular very handy and resourceful. I would however suggest that the guide fees be made more reasonable as for small groups and families they easily exceed all the other fees charged. They are however ok for larger groups of campers and expedition era as their costs and those for booking the special campsites would then be pooled.

I also feel that we did not fully Explore Shaba and I am looking forward to a revisit with a larger or medium sized group of campers for a whole week of camping and...

Nature at its best. Rare Grevy zebras and reticulated giraffes present. Also the gerenuk antelopes otherwise called giraffe antelopes because of their long necks are equally a refreshing sights. Quite a getaway outdoor invigorating moments in what would aptly be described by outdoors lovers and the ardent classical naturalists as a place in the middle of nowhere because of the expansive wilderness and exceedingly sweet and well prepared menus. A remarkable spot on the map that should be a must in the itinerary of all nature lovers...

Shana National Reserve is a community run project via the Isiolo county government. The guards at the gate can be a bit annoying. But overlook that, and the Reserve is full of splendor. Home to the Gravis Zebra (sp*), Crocodiles, Buffaloes and of course plenty of Lions. The scenery is out of this world. You are adviced though to carry a bottle of water with you as it gets hot.
