Day Hiking at Mt Kilimambogo This is a very beginner friendly hike. • Distance: The full hike is 14km with an approximate elevation gain of >730m. Max elevation is 2,145m asl. •Start Point: Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park Gate. • There are 3 trail options to the top- all the trails/footpaths are connected to the road so this is a dirt road+trail type of hike. -Option 1: Footpath 1~>Footpath 2~>Dirt-road.- I have done this for most of my hikes here. -Option 2: Footpath 1 ~>Footpath 2(new route known as the Rock Hyrax footpath)- Only descended via RH. -Option 3: Dirt Road all the way up; this is a tricky one because of cars and dust + sun. It’s also longer with more than 2 or 3kms compared to the other routes. Both routes (options 1 and 2) are doable and fun. The new RH route is pretty steep compared to the old Footpath 2 but i think it’s more exciting ascending it than descending. Most sections of RH route are pretty steep and eroded due to frequent passage by other hikers so have comfortable shoes during this hike. Ones with good grip come in handy both for ascent and descent. :) Gear (see slide 7:)—my bag is bigger because my friend and i opted to make+have our breakfast at the summit😄 Very light gear required for this hike because it is HOT😅. Very light thermal top, breathable tights/shorts, hiking boots/trainers with good grip, trekking pole, sun hat/baseball cap, sunglasses, a lot of water- lots of it :). Average ascent and descent time is 4-5hrs :). Whether slow or fast, it’s advisable to start your hike early because of the sun. No known limits on trail access days so it is accessible all week from 6am to 5pm. As usual, if you are unsure of the route, stay safe, and get a guide :) My opinion of this trail is that it could be ideal for someone who’s looking to start hiking, or a frequent hiker on recovery days looking to still keep training but have easy days in between-that’s me:). Not very many views to explore but there’s interesting flora to learn about, and a bit of bird watching to do as well. Go hike💪🏿 Be sure to have fun :)⭐️

Did a hike here with Wild Springs Adventures. Its a Friendly scenic trail. Ideal for Kids, families or Beginners to hiking. It's One of the most oldest Trails in Kenya hiking trails network. Has public washroom which are clean and well serviced. The trail is well marked and it's one of the most scenic parks i have visited so far. The History of the great McMillan and his contribution to Kenyan history comes live when you visit this place. Not to forget the unsual grave site which is almost at the summit of this trail.

I love this place! The walk is just amazing! It stretches you to your utmost limit! But it is worthwhile. I don't know what happened to the buffalos, you see none! Today we saw something that looked like an antelope and plenty of birds... The KWS officers at the gate were very friendly! Kudos! Kindly put up some water points along the way. Can you believe the guys at the summit told us they were selling water the smallest bottle was going for Ksh 100. That's extortion and taking advantage of poor thirsty Kenyans!
