Historical yet abused by public. While the site has little to offer it is significant in the Kenyan history books as well as World History and wildlife history. There is something in the air that makes you think about what humans have done to nature. A sense of emotion can come over one if they have a connection to wildlife. However, the burnt mounds are not respected as people fight to stand on top of them to get a photo, children round over them as well as throw the stones. Very sad way to treat a place that has such significance. Probably not worth the visit due to the public’s lack of respect for the monument.

Profound in its demonstration of the cost of elephant poaching and of successive Kenyan governments' commitment to protecting our elephants, the Ivory Burning Site elicits both a sense of loss and of hope. KWS is presently working on improving the site, to make it more inviting to visitors to spend time at.

This place is just behind the main entrance of Nairobi National Park and is actually a bit unspectacular at the beginning. But when you realize that the ash mounds are all burnt ivory, everything takes on a new meaning.

The Ivory Burning Site & Picnic Area is a small park located in Nairobi, Kenya. The park is home to a large mound of ivory that was burned in 2016 as a symbol of the fight against elephant poaching. The park also has a picnic area and a few educational exhibits about elephants.

I visited the Ivory Burning Site & Picnic Area on a recent trip to Nairobi, and I was really impressed. The mound of ivory is incredibly large, and it is a powerful reminder of the need to protect elephants. The picnic area is also a nice place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

I particularly enjoyed the educational exhibits about elephants. I learned a lot about the different types of elephants, their habitats, and the threats they face. I also learned about the work that is being done to protect elephants.

The Ivory Burning Site & Picnic Area is a great place to learn about elephants and the fight against poaching. It is also a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. I highly recommend visiting the Ivory Burning Site & Picnic Area if you are ever in Nairobi.

Pros:

Powerful reminder of the need to protect elephants Educational exhibits about elephants Nice picnic area Peaceful and serene setting

Cons:

The mound of ivory can be a bit overwhelming The park is a bit small

Overall:

A great place to learn about elephants and the fight against poaching!

An early morning trip into the Nairobi National Park is highly recommended, even for city residents at least once a year. The allow you to venture out of your car here at the Ivory Burning Site and Picnic Area. So carry your picnic basket and camera to spend some time here as you read the story of tonnes of tusks and horns that were burnt here to ensure they do not reach the market and fuel more poaching of African elephants and rhinos. The park opens at 6.00 am, so be early to catch as much wildlife as possible before they retreat into the...
