I’m visiting Kenya for the 3rd time since December 2024 for the USA. Overall, at least 85-90% of time hospitality and service in restaurants are at least rated from very good to excellent. This experience with Harvest was bad. Not terrible but from a server or hospitality standpoint it was bad.
I had interactions with 4 different employees. All were respectful and polite especially the hostess Stella who I shared my discontent with. Stella was very professional and felt bad. My biggest complaint is that I barely saw my waitress. On 2 different occasions, I had to ask the waiter from the next table to get her. I saw this waiter more than my waitress. Both times it took about 2-4 mins for her to come to my attention. I received my food from a different person. Not once did my waitress come to check on me to see if I needed something. That is why I had to call for her on 2 different occasions. I later ordered food to go. Never came to advise the time frame or explain what was taking so long. However, the hostess Stella took it upon her self to check on my behalf.
I had asked my lady before I decided to go to try Harvest who is Kenyan and lives here which is better Harvest or CJ’s before going to Harvest? She said CJ’s. I’ve been to CJ’s numerous times and service is very good if not excellent. Well she was 100% correct. In addition, she came to celebrate with her daughter and family a while back and felt she was mistreated and had a bad experience. She describes Harvest as just about aesthetics. So, basically all show ie looks good and no go ie poor service.
It’s hard to rate atmosphere good when service is bad. I have to admit my meal was good.
I cannot honestly recommend someone to go there base on my experience especially the price one pays for meals. I don’t have a problem with paying for good food AND especially service. I even tipped her. When I was leaving she was no where to be found. I respect people overall especially in the hospitality industry. Hence, I would have felt bad for not tipping. Now I regret tipping.
Harvest needs to ensure all their servers perform at the same level and be attentive to all customers regardless of ethnicity, nationality or origin. Sadly, I’m learning and disappointed that many Kenyans feel they are discriminated by some businesses. My lady this was why she was mistreated when she came with her family. That is terrible and unacceptable. This is their country and they deserve the same respect and attention as anyone else. Anything else is uncivilized and unacceptable. No one is greater than another. In addition, Harvest needs to make sure their servers keep the customer abreast at all times of the status of their meals. COMMUNICATION should be mandatory and not optional. It’s okay to be busy or short handed. Just discuss this matter with the customer. I overheard the 2 gentleman next to me complaining to their waiter why their food was taken so long. A customer should not...
Read moreGreat ambience. The setting at the far wall with the metal cups is a very creative and catchy idea.....whoever thought of that deserves an award. That's decor that is out of the ordinary, catchy but not all up in your face....but something you'll most definitely never forget. Such a wide variety of drinks to choose from; alcoholic and non alcoholic....wines, beers, cocktails, soft drinks, juice etc. The bartenders are also very friendly so you can have a talk about what you'd want to have before making an order. The sides are amazing.....I was sad to find out that the mini pie was vegetarian but once I took a bite at it, I changed my mind....it was out of this world. It's not meat, but it makes you feel like you're having meat....I don't know how they do that, but they should keep at it.... The stools at the counter are very long ...even for me and I'm above average in height but they're comfortable so I have no complaints about that except getting up on them. The restaurant has this cool vibe about it....it's modern, edgy, cool, funky, relaxed and classy at the same time.....there's something timeless about it. I'd most definitely go back there just for the ambience. The staff are really friendly....they occasionally check up on you and get to know if everything is okay with your meal, drinks etc. Not all up in your face to make you uncomfortable, but seeing them walking around makes you know they're concerned and that's a...
