Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. This hidden gem located in the outskirts of Nairobi, [Jamhuri] is approximately 6KMs from the heart of the city. This remarkable geographical location gives the forest a unique role in Nairobi and Kenya. Indeed it is a true sanctuary for both wildlife and city-dwellers like myself.

The moment I stepped into the sanctuary, I was greeted by the soothing sounds of birdsong and the gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze. The lush greenery and well-maintained trails made it a joy to explore. It's hard to believe that such a tranquil oasis exists just a stone's throw away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The highlight of my visit was encountering the diverse array of bird species that call Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary home. Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts will be in paradise here. I was lucky enough to spot several rare and beautiful species, thanks to the informative signage that helped me identify them. The trees in the forest comprise many species and they are well managed.

The conservation efforts at Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary are truly commendable. It's clear that the dedicated staff and volunteers are passionate about preserving this natural wonder. The educational programs and initiatives they run are vital for raising awareness about the importance of protecting our environment.

Whether you're a nature lover, a family looking for a peaceful day out, or simply seeking a break from the urban chaos, Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary offers something for everyone. I left feeling rejuvenated and inspired to do my part in safeguarding our planet.

I can't recommend Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary enough. It's a tranquil haven that reminds us of the beauty and importance of nature. Don't miss the opportunity to explore this urban oasis and connect with the natural world.

Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary is a hidden gem nestled amidst the bustling city of Nairobi, Kenya. As a nature enthusiast, my visit to this urban forest left me mesmerized and refreshed. Spanning across a considerable expanse, the sanctuary offers a tranquil escape from the city's hustle and bustle, providing a perfect retreat for individuals seeking solace and natural beauty.

Upon entering the forest, I was greeted by a canopy of lush green trees, their leaves whispering gentle secrets in the breeze. The well-maintained walking trails wind through the forest, offering a leisurely and invigorating walk. The serene atmosphere, punctuated by the melodious chirping of birds, was a delightful departure from the urban noise.

One of the most striking features of the Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary is the abundance of flora and fauna. The forest boasts a diverse range of indigenous plants, some of which are endemic to the region, providing a habitat for various bird species and small mammals. Birdwatchers and nature photographers would find themselves in paradise, capturing rare and captivating moments in their lens.

What makes this sanctuary even more remarkable is its commitment to conservation and education. The management team has done an exceptional job in preserving the ecosystem and creating awareness about the significance of urban green spaces. The guided tours and educational programs offered are informative and eye-opening, promoting ecological awareness and sustainable practices among visitors.

The serene ambiance, the richness of biodiversity, and the dedication to conservation make Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary an ideal destination for nature lovers, families, and anyone seeking a peaceful refuge in the heart of the city. I left the sanctuary with a renewed appreciation for nature's beauty and a desire to return, making it a must-visit destination for all those exploring Nairobi's...

First time visiting and what a wonderful experience. This sanctuary is along ngong road next to the Nairobi war cemetery. The entrance fee is only KES 100 for us citizens. These are by far the cheapest trails in Nairobi. Payment is done by MPESA making it convenient as opposed to the E-citizen route which is a bit tidious sometimes. They do have an annual fee of KES 6000. I think if you are a frequent visitor who lives in the area, it makes sense.

The forest is clean with lots of native trees. Some have a name sign and others don't. The trail is easy to follow thanks to the 5KM prompts put up after every 5KMs. There are other smaller unmarked trails if you want to be a bit adventurous but be on the lookout for the safari ants especially if you go down to the stream. There is a stream with clear water.

This is a great place to come and get a work out. Great for those who enjoy walking or jogging. Ideal for a walking date or a contemplative walk.

This forest doesn't seem to get packed and has very few visitors compared to the arboretum or Karura. Perhaps it is the location or perhaps most people don't know about the place or confuse it with the Ngong hills which is very possible. The downside is people come with their dogs and you will encounter dog poop every now and then which is super annoying. There is also a gun range near by and the noise can be annoying if you are looking for a quiet space.

Either way, I definitely recommend the place and will be back to enjoy the space again. Definitely a...

A large forest area right in Nairobi. A great place for walks, jogging and bike rides. We visited it on a Saturday afternoon and were very pleased with the experience. It’s a 5-10 minute walk from Ngong Road. You'll arrive at the main gate with a security checkpoint. Here, you can pay the entrance fee: 100 shillings for citizens, 300 for foreigners. There are two trails for individual walks: 3 km and 5 km. If you want to go on a longer walk of 10 km or 21 km, you’ll need to be accompanied by rangers. The park is large, and it's easy to get lost. We rented bicycles, which cost 500 shillings per person for 2 hours. We chose the 5-kilometer trail. It runs through hills, so if you're not a well-trained athlete, you’ll get tired. It's a great physical workout! The trail is well-maintained, with overgrown trees cleared from the path. Rangers patrol the park on bicycles. Sometimes you encounter other visitors walking, biking, or walking their dogs. We felt safe. Along the way, we saw many signs and markers. According to the signs, horseback riding is also available here. There’s a nearby shooting range, so sometimes the silence is broken by gunshots. Don’t be alarmed. You can hear many birds in the forest, and there are plenty of butterflies flying around. There are larger animals in the park, but we didn’t see any. To spot monkeys or antelopes, you need to walk quietly, not ride old, squeaky bikes. Don’t forget to bring a bottle of water! You won’t find any in the forest.
