An underutilized attraction right on the border between Kiambu and Machakos counties in Kilimambogo area.... I say underutilized because the potential of this magnificent resource on Athi River (one of Kenya's biggest rivers) is huge...
I was indeed surprised that there are not many visitors to the 14 falls despite it's beauty, and fairly accessible location....it's just about 20 kilometers from Thika Town...
Okay, you can still enjoy a variety of activities from just sitting there on the 'shores' of the River, admiring the beauty that the falls serve as water drops downwards while making a mix of sounds that can sound therapeutic to rock climbing and riding a boat across the river and to fishing (once you move to the other side) so yes, it's worth a visit.
It can also be a scenic location if you're into content production (even music videos shooting).
And there are guides too..and divers (pay to watch them dive) and photographers ..none is expensive...
But overall, I feel that there is a lot more that could be offered here so perhaps the people running it should look into ideas like offering Kayaking and other water sports....
Also a good eatery is needed.
Then the river is dirty upstream...it appears it carries a lot of rubbish from areas it passes through...I don't know why they can't clean it once it comes in....
Noted that we paid Kshs.100 per person at the gate ..also for the car you pay Kshs.100...for camera the fee...
Read moreFourteen Falls is one of the tourist attractions in Kiambu County.
It's about 65KMs from Nairobi city. If by public means of transport, you'd have to take a matatu to take you to Thika town or directly to Makongeni. From Makongeni, you'll pick another one to a place they call Kilimambogo.
Once you alright there, it's better to take a motorcycle (bodaboda). They are always available. The bodas charge you Kes 200 to Fourteen Falls.
At the entrance, you pay Kes 100 (adult) to get in. If you need to do any filming with a video camera, you'll need to part with Kes 500.
There are alot of activities you can:
-Enjoying the beautiful fourteen falls -Cross the river to the other side where there are picnic sites as well as a swimming pool. -The guides, are friendly and would guide you through the river, you would it need to part with Kes 500 or more depending.
-You could take a boat ride at a cost -You could also just take nice pictures -You could just chill by yourself or with your loved ones as you enjoy each other's company while sneaking snacks for your yourselves.
For a minimum of Kes 1000 each, you and your person could do so much at the...
Read moreActually a very beautiful natural spectacle. BUT: The access road, especially the last four kilometres, is very bumpy and the park is poorly signposted. The entrance fee for locals is 100 KES, for tourists 2000 KES, which is an absolute DISGRACE. The two ladies at the ticket office were disrespectful and more or less racially insulted me as a white European. We even had to pay 500 KES for the car even though we were the only visitors on a Monday around midday. White pieces of PFAS foam fly through the air near the water and it stinks terribly of chemicals and sewage. If you want to get sick you should go there. The whole park is littered with rubbish and rubbish while the staff lie in the shade and doze. I have never visited a park that is so run down and where such unfriendly staff are idle. A complete disappointment. I would never visit the park again. We left after 30 minutes because the health issues caused by the stench were more important. A...
