Trail Overview The hike begins with a one-hour walk to the starting point. From there, youâll pass through open savannah until reaching the bamboo gate, which marks the entrance to the dense bamboo forest.
Bamboo Forest Inside the forest, the trail is boggy and alive with wildlife â if youâre lucky, you may spot the colobus monkey. Be aware that this area is home to many red ant colonies. They often nest right on the trail and in muddy patches, so keep an eye out. On my visits, I had trouble with them crawling into my trousers and biting, so itâs a good idea to wear long, protective clothing and remain cautious.
Rocky and Steep Terrain Once you exit the bamboo forest, the trail becomes much steeper and rocky, with shrubs replacing the bamboo. The path follows ridges, so expect a lot of up-and-down hiking across uneven, often challenging ground.
