I booked at Elsamere on the recommendation of a friend with the intention of a 2-day solo retreat but ended up staying 5 days because I loved it so much. I'm familiar with Joy & George Adamson's story, having watched Born Free a few times in the '80s and '90s, but it was really special to experience what used to be their home (as well as Elsa's).||The property is really beautiful and unlike many of the properties in Naivasha, is right on the lake. So you have stunning panoramic views of the lake from your room or from any of the common areas. I loved that it never felt crowded even though the lodge filled up on the last night I was there - likely because the lodge accommodates 20 guests max if I'm not mistaken.||The service was really great! The staff were all incredibly warm, friendly, professional and accommodating. Big shout-out to Rachel who really went out of her way and made me feel right at home. The lodge manager, David was always super attentive and present.||There was always a fresh pot of decent filter coffee when I needed it - not always a given at the lodges, but so appreciated here. There was always a pitcher of drinking water at the tables during mealtimes, but I loved the fresh watermelon juice I ordered daily. The food was pretty good - very fresh and very wholesome. My daytime dining experience was definitely enhanced by all the wildlife that kept me company. It was such a treat to be able to watch the variety of birdlife, Colobus monkeys and warthogs that were always around while I enjoyed my meals.||I stayed in a Superior room which looked like it may have been recently spruced up. The bed and bedding was so warm, cozy and comfortable, and the shower had decent water pressure and hot water. My only recommendation here to the management would be to consider using warm white light bulbs instead of daylight bulbs in the rooms to create better ambiance in the rooms at night. I spent a fair bit of time on the front porch of my room because the animals (especially the warthog families) would come right up to it and I had a beautiful view of the lake. Almost every night, there were hippos, zebras and giraffes outside my room. ||Other points to note:|* Generally accessible for anyone in a wheelchair or walking aide.|* Great WiFi connection everywhere on the property|* Lodge entrance is on the main Moi South Lake rd (very accessible via saloon car)||Many thanks to the awesome Elsamere team for your wonderful hospitality - David, Peninah, Rachel, et al. Read moreElsamere was a wonderful getaway during our stay near Lake Naivasha. The landscape, location, diversity in wildlife, the history of the place were all breathtaking. |We were situated in a good - sized room facing the lake with a big lawn in front of the porch area. The room was clean and washroom amenities were sufficient but had low water -pressure . When we ate lunch on the lawn, pumbas, vervet monkeys and a multitude of birds also started foraging for food right next us! It was an experience of a lifetime ! Zebras, deer, and giraffes frequent the open lawn area too. Hippos are regulars there too, but arrive after dark to eat off the lawn, but we didn't spot them the 1-night we stayed. |The property offers walking tours around their unfenced property, visit to the museum and their in-house grand horned owl which would include exploring the flora/ fauna, birds and small animals that makeup the ecosystem. Our kid enjoyed the tour and it was a great learning experience! They also offer boat -rides around the lake to go over the crescent Island. |The entire staff was friendly - kitchen, security and house-keeping. Food was below-average at best. All meals served were buffet- style and hardly hit the mark on taste on any dish. || I would certainly go back here again for the wholesome nature - immersive experience for sure and highly recommend staying here if in the naivasha area. The place is loaded with history!|(Just don't have expectations of...
