I booked at Elsamere on the recommendation of a friend with the intention of a 2-day solo retreat but ended up staying 5 days because I loved it so much. I'm familiar with Joy & George Adamson's story, having watched Born Free a few times in the '80s and '90s, but it was really special to experience what used to be their home (as well as Elsa's).||The property is really beautiful and unlike many of the properties in Naivasha, is right on the lake. So you have stunning panoramic views of the lake from your room or from any of the common areas. I loved that it never felt crowded even though the lodge filled up on the last night I was there - likely because the lodge accommodates 20 guests max if I'm not mistaken.||The service was really great! The staff were all incredibly warm, friendly, professional and accommodating. Big shout-out to Rachel who really went out of her way and made me feel right at home. The lodge manager, David was always super attentive and present.||There was always a fresh pot of decent filter coffee when I needed it - not always a given at the lodges, but so appreciated here. There was always a pitcher of drinking water at the tables during mealtimes, but I loved the fresh watermelon juice I ordered daily. The food was pretty good - very fresh and very wholesome. My daytime dining experience was definitely enhanced by all the wildlife that kept me company. It was such a treat to be able to watch the variety of birdlife, Colobus monkeys and warthogs that were always around while I enjoyed my meals.||I stayed in a Superior room which looked like it may have been recently spruced up. The bed and bedding was so warm, cozy and comfortable, and the shower had decent water pressure and hot water. My only recommendation here to the management would be to consider using warm white light bulbs instead of daylight bulbs in the rooms to create better ambiance in the rooms at night. I spent a fair bit of time on the front porch of my room because the animals (especially the warthog families) would come right up to it and I had a beautiful view of the lake. Almost every night, there were hippos, zebras and giraffes outside my room. ||Other points to note:|* Generally accessible for anyone in a wheelchair or walking aide.|* Great WiFi connection everywhere on the property|* Lodge entrance is on the main Moi South Lake rd (very accessible via saloon car)||Many thanks to the awesome Elsamere team for your wonderful hospitality - David, Peninah, Rachel, et al. I'll...

Elsamere was a wonderful getaway during our stay near Lake Naivasha. The landscape, location, diversity in wildlife, the history of the place were all breathtaking. |We were situated in a good - sized room facing the lake with a big lawn in front of the porch area. The room was clean and washroom amenities were sufficient but had low water -pressure . When we ate lunch on the lawn, pumbas, vervet monkeys and a multitude of birds also started foraging for food right next us! It was an experience of a lifetime ! Zebras, deer, and giraffes frequent the open lawn area too. Hippos are regulars there too, but arrive after dark to eat off the lawn, but we didn't spot them the 1-night we stayed. |The property offers walking tours around their unfenced property, visit to the museum and their in-house grand horned owl which would include exploring the flora/ fauna, birds and small animals that makeup the ecosystem. Our kid enjoyed the tour and it was a great learning experience! They also offer boat -rides around the lake to go over the crescent Island. |The entire staff was friendly - kitchen, security and house-keeping. Food was below-average at best. All meals served were buffet- style and hardly hit the mark on taste on any dish. || I would certainly go back here again for the wholesome nature - immersive experience for sure and highly recommend staying here if in the naivasha area. The place is loaded with history!|(Just don't have expectations of...

I can not say enough about the true joy one finds staying here! The staff, the history, the mission, the view, the food the accomodations - among some of the best in all of Kenya as far as I am concerned! Thank you all for welcoming us into you hearts and letting us stay at this magical place. For those people thinking of visiting the cabins offer up close encounters with hippos, giraffe, dik-diks, Monkeys, pumbaas, leopards, birds of prey more, which come up lawn to graze on the grass. It is because the animals are so close and wild that guests can not walk around at night even for a distance of 100m you might encounter hippos (we did twice!). The food and the staff was excellent and friendly. The conservatory is a trust created by the Kenyan national treasure Joy Adamson the author of "Born Free" as a retirement home for her and her husband George Adamson (a famous lion rehabilitator in his own right). Guests can take spectacular hikes/cycle rides through nearby Hell's Gate for more close encounters to see the inspiration of Pride Rock and Mufasa's stampede. Take a boat ride to get up close to water buck, giraffes, hawk eagle on crecent island and see hippos in the water just feet away. The land mammals were left behind on crescent island (really a peninsula by the crew of Out of Africa) which was filmed there. Fishermen pull nets and swing poles all along the waters edge perilously close to resting hippos. Truely, truely an amazing experience.

I initially went there for the raved high tea but ended up spending 4 hours there, and could easily have spent more time. I ended up doing their lunch buffet too. Tea + lunch combo is 2500ksh. Next time I will go there just for their lunch buffet (starts at 1pm). The meals were fairly simple. High tea was basic with a few cakes, cookies and watermelon. Lunch was more satisfying, with several types of salads, mini bread, a few hot mains (very tender beef stew!), two types of desserts and fruit. I only have a picture of the salads, before the rest of the food was ready, and then the desserts. The guide, Chenge, brought the museum to life with his storytelling. The documentary was surprisingly entertaining with a lot of heartwarming lion and cheetah footage. But what makes the money so worthwhile is the peaceful grounds with plenty of space to roam and seating to go into contemplative moods. It's also rich with wildlife that aren't too afraid of humans; colorful birds, beautiful Colobus monkeys and wild boars. The caretaker fed the monkeys right before the lunch buffet started so we had a view of them eating while we ate. Unfortunately one of them lost interest in its own food and went for a potato on someone's plate. It doesn't seem to be a frequent occurrence though, so don't be afraid of them. I'm looking forward to returning soon!

Beautiful grounds and atmosphere. We visited on a Saturday afternoon for high tea. Lovely location on Lake Naivasha with well kept grounds, very peaceful. It has that slightly faded, but very comfortable feel you get at these older places. A leisurely 45 minute drive from Naivasha town. High tea is currently (June 2021) being served whenever you like rather than strictly at 3pm and was a plate of homemade biscuits and cakes with Kericho Gold tea or powdered hot chocolate for children. Decent value at 1000/- per adult and 500/- per child as it includes entry to the grounds. We spent a couple of hours sitting on the lawns, watching the colobus monkeys, looking across the lake and enjoying the tranquility. The staff mentioned that they are doing deals on full board accomodation at the moment as it's quiet. Recommended if you are in the area.
