IMPORTANT: Both pools are public and not owned by anyone if you walk to them along the beach starting from the north of Diani Beach. You can go to the pool for FREE and also can swim inside. The pools are only visible and accesible when its low tide and around 2 hour before and after. Please check the tide timetable online. The tide is different everyday.

When entering the pool from the landside, you habe to go over some private properties. Most of the properties seems like they are not owned by anyone. But there are some local guys who want a lot of money from you. They try to sell you entrance fee or say that a guide is needed. Sometimes they also want to rent lifejackers or snorkeling gear to you. All these things are optional and you can easily walk past them, just make them clear that Tiwi Beach is a public beach.

However we really liked the two pools. Especially the second pool, which is a bit to the north. You can walk from obe to the other pool by foot, when its low tide.

I would say, the pool and the beach itself is very safe. If you are unsure about security or the local guys (sort of mafia) you can easily just book a tour to the beaches somewhere in Diani or Mombasa. Don't use the local guys, they are...

Very nice spot but unfortunately the local people will scam you, they act like a mafia and can be very aggressive.

They will try to get the maximum of money from you. For every step, you have to give money.

First , they ask money to cross the "property" (for the owner) but it's abandoned place, they just put a fake checkpoint to get money. Secondly there is a guy pretending to collect money for the government, fake, everything is fake. After that, the guys still stick on us, we said that we can do our swimming by ourselves but they continue to follow us. At the end they ask again for money as a guide. We argued with them and it was quite dangerous at one point.

It's a public place owned by nobody. So everyone must be able to go there

The government/police should do something to stop this mafia or directly take the control of this place.

That's a shame because there are spoiling the experience.

The person who is responding to the reviews is a tour guide, nobody owns this place ....

Very beautiful place to swim during low tide. The pool is not visible during high tide so be keen to check the tide table so you don’t waste a whole day going there.

I would personally advise visitors to get Uber or boda ride from Ukunda and get to African pools, from the pools assuming you went in during midday, you can walk along the beach to Kongo river and catch the sunset canoe then get a tuktuk from there as it should be cheaper for sure.

Be careful not to leave your personal belongings unattended when you go in the pool, there have been increased cases of theft and mugging. Don’t carry money passport as a precaution. There are a lot of sea urchins so protect your feet also. If you can come with snorkeling goggles as there are very beautiful fishes in the pool and coral, but not a...

Definitely one of them most beautiful places I've ever been to. There is some places where you can park for free if you consume something and places where you need to pay for parking on private compounds (~500 KES). Swimming cost 200 per person - I absolutely recommend swimming into the caves at the Oceania pool, that was my highlight. Diving from the rocks at the African pool is also super fun but take care it is rather shallow. We were very grateful for our guide as he knew the way well and showed us all the different spots. He showed us where to see fish, where to take photos and where to dive. He also took a lot of photos of us and place with our phone. Anamazing experience!
