Lake Turkana — Attraction in Turkana County

Lake Turkana is a place to visit. It has beautiful sandy beaches especially on the eastern shores coming all the way to Eliye springs through Teleki volcano. A lot of crocodiles to see on the southern basin and a a crater on central island. There are three islands in the lake:- (1). South Island- It is a national park, breeding point of fish, a lot of snakes, a good place to camp etc. (2). Central Island- It is a National park, there are two craters:- one crater has a lot of flamingoes and the other that opens into the sea is a good breeding point for crocodiles. (3). A uniquely beautiful place. Kenya Wildlife Services can greatly improve the place by putting very simple and basic shaded rest points between the various hiking trails eg from the trail from the Tilapia Lake and Crocodile Lake to Flamingo Lake on Central Island. Currently it is a moderate to tough trail with no rest points under the merciless Turkana sun. There aren't any long enough trees to provide any shade.

The boat ride from the shore to the Central Island is ridiculously overpriced. The various operators and KWS need to do something about this. Paying +/-US$200 for this boat ride is way...

We drove for several hours about 12 from Nairobi before we could get to Lake Turkana. The terrain and the landscape across the multiple counties like Samburu and Marsabit that we drove through before getting to Turkana was quite beautiful.
