Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place kept popping up on various booking sites, it had good reviews so we thought we'd stay. ||||Unfortunately, Naivasha must have had one of its coldest and wettest spells in December ever, so the weather totally washed our experience away.||||We stayed in one of the cottages, which was very comfortable, but we did feel like it needed a proper good pair of eyes to totally clean the room properly i.e clean away dust, cobwebs and wall stains. ||We still have no idea why there is a TV in the room, it was not showing anything.||The bathroom was functional and practical, water was properly hot.||||The Chef obviously loves cooking and food, we thought the food was exceptional for a relatively smaller lodge. I've stayed in "smarter" hotels in Naivasha with far less tasty food than this place, the consistently good food was a real bonus. ||||The pool is big and has a nice patio area with a big enough bar, but because of the weather we couldn't fully take advantage of this facility. ||||The design of the place is quirky and the grounds have some interesting details like the rock pool and gardens which have fantastic birdlife to see. ||||The hotel is a little further away from the Lake and trips, but I wouldn't let that put anyone off, it's about 20 actual minutes away from all of that, which was fine for us. ||||The staff were all very friendly, if a little timid and shy with a few like they'd never seen a hotel guest before. ||||I know our wet and cold stay at this place cast a different experience overall, but I would recommend for the owners to have a look at the entertainment available on site. A few simple extras and a bit of creative thinking could really have this place buzzing and become the number 1 destination...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDovenest Lodge and Peppercorn "resort" ( a sister company) is not even within Naivasha let alone near Lake Naivasha. Its a good 8 to 10 Kilometer away from Lake Naivasha without ANY green and open spaces. Food options are very very limited to traditional african dishes and the lodge being 4 km off the main road and another 4 or 5 km from Naivahsa, we had to put up with whatever was available.|| ||We were excitedly waiting for the bonfire that night but it was a huge let down as it was next to the the pool area and there was hardly space enough for 10 guests at a time. ||Then the Music started! we had to leave as soon as they turned up the volume. A huge Speaker at the pool area started to blare out loud music which could be heard till our rooms upstairs a good 300 mtrs away! thank god we weren't given the cottages which were NEXT to the pool area because the blaring speakers lasted well into the night till almost 1 am!!||The following day, at 6 am, a nearby church started their preaching on loud speakers! So if you are looking for a peaceful, quiet and tranquil place for a night, Dovenest is definitely not the place to choose.||The rates too were quite expensive considering there was absolutely NOTHING to enjoy within their compound!!! Pool water was freezing cold and absolutely nowhere to lounge as there are neither open nor any green spaces anywhere. is just a 1 or 2 acre property crammed with wooden maisonettes, some cottages, a dining hall, a bar at the poolside and a conference room above the bar.||||Waste of time and total...
