Very nice waterfalls, even more at this time of the year (July2022). Accessible from Attapeu through route 18, which is in a very deplorable state (this might get better as they are, slowly, rebuilding route 18). Go with at least a pick up truck, SUV or ATV. The road leading to this waterfall from the main road is not too bad but can get very muddy on rainy days. An access with parking and slippery concrete stairway as been built at the top of the waterfall on your left nearby the parking. From this entrance they also installed a huge net that overlooks the waterfall. At the time of our visit, a tree was hanging from one of the cables (so yeah cables are strong) so we decided not to try it. The waterfall is also accessible from the bottom, where the very last slope leading to the footing of the waterfall is rocky but still manageable. Beware of slippery rocks if you choose to walk closer to the falls.
On your way from Attapeu you can witness multiple waterfalls going down the plateau which makes the ride more enjoyable. Because.. you will suffer 😉 and it's absolutely worth it 😎
Historical notes: On July 23rd 2018, the Saddle Dam D project under construction by the Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy Power Company (PNPC), just North of these waterfalls near Paksong on the Bolovan Plateau collapsed resulting in the worst industrial accident in Laos history: completely wiping off entire villages and sadly, killing many. An estimated 1100 people are still missing following these events. On your way to these waterfalls you will see numerous bridges that have been rebuilt but also entire villages including...
Read moreDrove here from Pakse via Pakson on 125cc dirtbike. The first 30km from Pakson is a paved road with some potholes through rural areas. After that the road switches to red dusty stuff. It was in a quite good shape after the rainy season. It took us 2h for the ride from pakson to the first Waterfall. The last part is a bit more offroady/technical. I'm riding dirtbike back home and I would not recommend doing it on a Honda Wave, except you are really adventurous and start from pakson in the morning. I bet it's a hell of a ride in the rainy season, don't do that alone or without a proper bike.
The Waterfall itself was awesome! Go there!
You need to pay 30k entry for both...

Google will tell you 2h, count 5 without problem on the road.
The way from pakson is only off-road with not a single mechanic shop on the road, and if you keep going to do the loop to come back to the main road to Thailand the road will only get worse and worse!
I'm always careful about scheduling to arrive in time before the dark, and this time I got caught by the dark, I had to cross shallow water, and deep muddy wet road for 4 hour in the complete dark.
The water fall is very nice, have an easy accessible flat rock formation on the left to enjoy...
