This is one of the most beautiful, impressive, and sacred sites in Laos PDR. Just a short trip across the Mekong River from Nakhon Phanom, you'll find this magnificent, gleaming golden stupa standing elegantly on the riverbank. The atmosphere inside the temple is incredibly peaceful and serene. A cool breeze blows throughout the day, creating an indescribably peaceful and spiritually fulfilling feeling. The stupa has a long history dating back to the Sikhottabong Kingdom and was later restored during the reign of King Setthathirath into the beautiful Lan Xang style we see today. Besides the beauty of the main stupa, you can also pay respects to the "Phra Chao Ong Teu" Buddha image inside the main chapel and walk to the riverside pavilion (sala) for a stunning view of the Mekong River, with a clear sight of Nakhon Phanom on the other side. It's a fantastic spot for photos. A very important thing to know: The dress code here is strictly enforced. Women must wear a traditional sarong (pha sin) only (trousers are not permitted). If you don't have one, they are available to rent at the temple for a small fee. There is a small entrance fee for foreigners, but it is absolutely worth the trip to pay homage and admire its beauty. It makes for a perfect cross-river trip and is an absolute must-do. Highly...

I was not able to get close to any of the buildings because they are not open to the public...
