I hiked in (with a guide); overnighted in a remote village, and rafted out next day.
Very clean trails, but it we would be a good leadership practice for guides to bring a trash bag and teach the importance of keeping the jungle unspoiled by humans.
The villages are varying degrees of very poor, but socially successful and happy. Ecotourism helps them connect with the importance of preservation.
