Baloži peat museum railway — Attraction in Baloži

The guys who organise the tours are great! I enjoyed learning about the peat extraction history! However, I think it's sad that they are forced to raise funds from the members of the public. I believe that SIA Pindstrup (owned by Pindstrup Mosebrug Denmark) must cover the costs. The Denmark' company must build a circular railway for Latvians as part of their remediation program. Otherwise at the moment it looks like a foreign business profiting off a poorer country's natural resources. I am saddened that local communities are excluded from the decision making processes. If the Latvian government gave up its high-value resource extraction and export power then Pindstrup could at least leave a positive legacy for the local people. Cool idea to relaunch old little train to the peat bogs and very exciting for kids. However keep in mind that most experience is around looking at train, boarding, reading about history, listening to the audio guide in Latvian. But staff is super friendly and knowledgeable and can answer questions and explain the history in other languages. Actual riding is taking few minutes.
