Grobiņa Castle is a medieval castle located in the town of Grobiņa, in South Kurzeme Municipality in the Courland region of Latvia. The ancient Curonian castle hill is located only 100 m from the castle. It is supposed to be the famous Seeburg, which is mentioned in Scandinavian sources as early as the 9th century.

The place is an open space, there are many parts of the medieval masonry in place. It has an open theater, WC, a little coffee kiosk and a metal structure to observe the ruins from above. I was a little saddened by the fact that the conservation works during the soviet times took out the medieval charm of the place - there are many visible concrete structures and a lot of modern bricks were used. It makes part of the castle look like a cheap soviet era...

Well.. a bit disapoinent :/ There is almost nothing originaly left from medieval castle. All walls are almost rebuild, in the middle of castle there is a stage and wachtower- all with modern architecture. So, if you are not looking for a bit authentic staff, just regular tourist staff,this place...
