I have visited this “mini zoo” with my friend. We were very exited and anticipated to receive a similar experience to “Rakši zoo”. However, we were disappointed, appalled and heartbroken when we left.
Let me dive a little deeper. This is marketed as a contact zoo, where you can feed and touch animals, but for some reason they have these metal rod fences where the owners cut holes for animals to poke their heads out, they are sharp, animals hurt themselves and seem unnecessary. Then we came across animals with eye infections, that have puss coming out of their eye and we thought “okay, well it’s sad, but they are probably being treated”, then the animals hay is being kept in the wrong conditions, then we saw a pony who has asthma and when we fed her, she started experiencing tummy issues, she shouldn’t be fed and should be treated…, but then again we said “well maybe they are being treated and we shouldn’t be making a big deal about it, because we don’t know”, however, the last straw was when I saw a llama or alpaca who grew OUT of his halter and that SMALL halter was digging into the poor animal’s face, it was bleeding, there was puss, so many flies around the wounded area, it was horrific. At that moment, I came to the realisation that if they CARED, really, TRULY CARED they would have 100% noticed that the animal is in pain, because it has an infected, bleeding face BECAUSE its halter is too small for him and has clearly not been taken off since god knows when!!! They are negligent towards these animals and there is probably so much more that I have not seen or have not noticed, but I am so sorry for those animals… and they have monkeys and other exotic animals, who need specific care. I honestly don’t even want to think about it. This place needs to be held...
Read morewhen i went here, it looked like a good place for the outdoor animals. they had a bunch of space to walk around in. when i got to the place where they kept the bunnies and rabbits, i was heartbroken. they have one little box where they can barely move around in. it’s so sad that these animals have such small spaces to just be in. including the birds and monkeys. the birds had such small spaces and their legs looked damaged and looked like it hadn’t been taken care of at all. the monkeys had absolutely no space at all. for monkeys, that is way too little. they don’t have any space to jump or run around in. the donkey has become so big that it barely has space in the little den they have. it looked liker some of the outdoor animals had some injuries that hadn’t been taken care of.
give all the animals more space and take...
Read moreThe outdoor animals are held with proper space, but most of the more “exotic” animals are in very tight spaces. Even though it complies with the laws of Latvia, it’s by far too less space for an animal to properly live in. For example holding a Macaw in a 2x1x2 square meter box for such a big bird is more irresponsible. Do yourself a favor and give them more space. For the sake of the animals and...
