Hello! This was an incredibly interesting and educational experience! A great opportunity to learn more about life in the soviet union- how the security system operated, how life was structured during the "Cold War," and so much more.
A special thank you to our guide, Regina. She is not just a guide, but someone who truly brings the past to life. She shared many interesting facts with us and even recommended a film, which we immediately watched after returning home. It felt like a continuation of the tour.
We are truly grateful for the preservation of the bunker. This place helps us better understand how important decisions made at the highest levels can impact entire nations. It serves as a reminder of the importance of valuing peace and stability.
It is also worth noting that Līgatne is not only about the bunker, but also a wonderful place for rest in nature. Pleasant walks in the forest, fresh air, and the scent of pine trees.
In conclusion, we wish peace and serenity to all nations. May humanity continue to learn from its past and strive to create a better future for all. Let places like this serve as reminders of the importance of clear-headed decision-making and the care for peace.
Thank you, Regina, for your hard work and for sharing your knowledge of Latvian...
Read moreFelt the need update my review. We went back and got a different guide in July of 2025. She spoke marvellous English and had a bit of banter. Some great jokes. She made the experience so much more fun and engaging. I wish I remembered her name. She was married to an American I believe.
Was a great experience. Old Review: It was just kind of beige. I wanted to like it but it just wasn't exciting or interesting enough for me. I wish it was but it just didn't do it for me. They should give you more of a chance to take photos. That would help a lot. Also, its a big tourist type thing so more English signs on the rooms would be great as the guide spoke only Latvian. I know. This is Latvia. But this place is probably attractive to tourists more and English is the neutral language in Europe. I found it a little boring. But that's just me. There is nothing to say you won't love it. Depends on what...
Read moreThis attraction is difficult to get to without your own transport. Bus times don't line up and typically require more than an hour wait. I opted to get a Grab from Sigulda and then caught a bus back (had to wait over an hour for this).
Ticket cost 13 euro (less than the website says) but no food is included so this might be why. You have to reserve your spot ahead of time, this can be done via their website. The tour went for 1 hour. Very large group for the English speaking tour.
I wish there was more time to take photos and ask questions. The guide was very passionate and enjoyed acting, but I would have preferred more factual information about the bunker and more time to see additional rooms. It was rather tight in some of the rooms with all the people.
I'm glad I did this, but it is a big investment of time (if you catch a bus) or money (if you get a Grab or rental car) for...
