Nature surrounded by pine trees and with the nice River Gauja running through it. One takes the train from Riga Central Station to Cēsis, which itself is very charming with the old ruins there set in a lovely setting. There are also many buses per day, more than trains. Maybe train up and bus back, or vice versa. I did a quick 3hr walk from the town to the river, but tracks are very poorly marked. I ended up walking along an old overgrown logging or access trail, coming out accidentally onto the back of someone's property. The boundary to this property was, on one side, marked by a fence with evil looking signs saying , 'entry forbidden', in Latvian and Russian. The meaning was rather clear in any event. Was happy to leave that particular spot. I think if one takes a bit more time and finds the best trail, it's nice to do, but nothing special.

We enjoyed an extended walk through the paths of this wonderful park. Beautiful scenery with Gauja river surrounded by a dense forest. In some parts only there are some really hungry mosquitos. Having a long sleeve t-shirt with you would be a good idea.Sigulda (one of the starting points) is a nice town.Krimulda is also a beautiful village and worths a stop, if the route you've chosen passes from there. Ideal for relaxation and coming closer to nature.

A very nice place to visit. It has a diverse list if places to visit: castles, valleys, rivers, caves, bridges, etc. I have visited all regions in Lithuania and I didn't expect such nice scenaries anywhere in Baltic countries. From the castle tower you can see only trees around for multiple kilometers. There is an interesting industrial village as well (Ligatne). I recommend to visit this national park.

A really fabulous place which is named after the Gauja River, which flows through the park and over a long time has created stunning sandstone cliffs and rock formations. Despite heavy rain the forests partially protected us and anyway it was a once in a life time walk and strangely the weather seemed to add to the enjoyment.

Beautiful park running along the river Gauja. Wild nature and beatiful forests. Unfortunately the biking trails are in poor condition. They are only suited for mountain bikes in my opinion, and not so much for touring. The main park roads are only sand with many bumbs .

Description
Gauja National Park is in northeast Latvia. It's known for its many historical structures. Covering a large swath of the Gauja Valley, it surrounds the town of Cēsis and its 13th-century castle. Medieval Turaida Castle, with its tall tower, anchors the Turaida Museum Reserve. Also here is Folk Song Park, with granite sculptures inspired by Latvian folklore. South, Sigulda town has a ruined Livonian Order castle.
