Nature surrounded by pine trees and with the nice River Gauja running through it. One takes the train from Riga Central Station to Cēsis, which itself is very charming with the old ruins there set in a lovely setting. There are also many buses per day, more than trains. Maybe train up and bus back, or vice versa. I did a quick 3hr walk from the town to the river, but tracks are very poorly marked. I ended up walking along an old overgrown logging or access trail, coming out accidentally onto the back of someone's property. The boundary to this property was, on one side, marked by a fence with evil looking signs saying , 'entry forbidden', in Latvian and Russian. The meaning was rather clear in any event. Was happy to leave that particular spot. I think if one takes a bit more time and finds the best trail, it's nice to do, but...

We enjoyed an extended walk through the paths of this wonderful park. Beautiful scenery with Gauja river surrounded by a dense forest. In some parts only there are some really hungry mosquitos. Having a long sleeve t-shirt with you would be a good idea.Sigulda (one of the starting points) is a nice town.Krimulda is also a beautiful village and worths a stop, if the route you've chosen passes from there. Ideal for relaxation and coming closer to nature.
