Great light hiking spot for families!
Sightseeing tower (from metal) at the very entrance (150m from entrance) with fantastic view on Kangari lake and nature reserve. Stairs and sight-seeing platform are made of “transparent” metal plates - first time I was feeling not comfortable due to my fear of heights. Tower itself is no that height, but still height enough :)
Except few fallen trees - there is possibility to explore the walking trail with wheelchair, or for young families with small children in babby carriage. Good quality trail (biggest part of trail covered, built from wood planks) goes “round”. From sightseeing tower some 350m distance to nice view spot to the “Large Kangari lake”. Bit longer trail, called “Burlakkalniņs”, around 1km lenght goes through swamp, both they are connected.
From facilities there is only wooden toilet (not the cleanest) at the entrance, and really small car parking for 5-10 cars.
No any tickets, entrance is free. Since this is nature reserve - you are not allowed to pickup any flowers, berries, mushrooms. As well - entrance with pets is not allowed.
Gravel road, last 5km both, from Ropazi or from Suntazu direction with quie high slope on both sides of the road - so...
Read moreVery nicely kept average length nature trail + fairly tall observation tower. The trail is circular with a short intro road which has posters with exercises to warm up, which is a pretty cool idea.
The trail itself I would describe as less interesting than some of the other trails in Latvia, with fairly generic forest and dry swamp environment, but the air is great and it's a decent length for a leisurely walk. Without a rush it took us exactly one hour for the entire length of it.
There is a toilet by the entrance, but it may not suit everyone...
Read moreThe observation tower near the entrance to the trail offers outstanding sights of the surrounding forested hills. The lake is very dark and deep. It is surrounded by a thin wimpy forest which opens up into a vast moor with great biological diversity. A great atmospheric experience in the autumn, it feels like the primordial moors of England. However, the claimed hill is not noticeable and no paths...
